I’ve had a sinus headache for days. What’s the quickest treatment?

Sinus headache is a very uncomfortable and painful condition and usually accompanies a sinus infection. The nasal tissues become inflamed and swollen restricting proper sinus drainage by narrowing nasal passages. One might experience a sense of fullness in the sinus cavity area affected by bacterial, viral or fungal infections, or allergies.

There are two major target zones in the course of sinus headache treatment: fighting bacteria and relieving uncomfortable symptoms of sinus headache. Your doctor will prescribe you the right sinus headache treatment in the form of antibiotics to kill bacteria, decongestants to relieve stuffiness and antihistamines, if the cause for your sinusitis is allergenic in nature.
If you need a quick sinus headache relief at home, you can apply a warm compress to the affected area or take a hot steamy shower or bath. Drink lots of liquids to thin out the mucous trapped in the sinus cavities and relieve sinus pressure. You can also take an over the counter medication to help you with sinus headache or allergy medication to help with relieving inflammation in the sinus tissues. However, this will only provide temporary relief for your sinus headache if you do not take care of the root causes of your sinus headache. If your doctor prescribes you antibiotics for sinus infection, make sure to take a full course even if your sinus headache symptoms are relieved within days. If you do not compete your antibiotic treatment, you may develop a chronic case of sinus infection that is much harder to treat.

The best treatment for sinus headache, however, is preventing sinus infections altogether. Maintain a healthy diet with plenty of exercise to boost your body’s natural immune response and prevent future sinusitis onsets.
