Why You Should Eat Almonds

Almonds and cholesterol go hand in hand, but in a good way. A regular consumption of almonds can actually lower the risk of high cholesterol and heart disease. Almonds are known to lower the levels of LDL or low density lipoproteins and increase the HDL or high density lipoproteins. The HDLs are the good cholesterol. This is why you should eat almonds regularly because they will ultimately lower your cholesterol level. Almonds and cholesterol levels are closely related.

Another reason why you should eat almonds is that they regulate your blood pressure. Almonds are rich in potassium and low in sodium which work together to level out your blood pressure. Almonds are also rich in fiber which provide a natural laxative and keeps your digestive system on the right track. By incorporating raw almonds into your diet you can avoid symptoms associated with constipation.

Almonds are also know to prevent gallstones, boost energy through the release of magnesium, copper and riboflavin, provide protection against diabetes and promote brain development. Pregnant women should consume raw almonds daily because they are rich in folic acid. Studies show that folic acid can reduce the risk of birth defects in unborn babies.

Almonds can be eaten raw or put in salads as a garnish. However you enjoy eating almonds, rest assured in knowing that they have long term effects on your body’s health.

Is there any difference between eating raw almonds and roasted ones? Personally, I prefer roasted, because the raw don’t have much taste.
