What are the most effective remedies for a bacterial yeast infection?

Out of all the types of bacterial infections, one of the most common is the bacterial yeast infection. It is common for women and is a result of the overgrowth of Candida in the vaginal canal which can cause symptoms such as a thick white cottage cheese like discharge as well as external vulvar itching and burning.

One of the most effective remedies for bacterial yeast infections is to purchase ready to insert ovules or cream that comes in pre loaded applicators. These applicators and ovules contain certain types of medications and typically come with an external cream to help alleviate burning and itching as well. Since there are many types of bacterial infections, especially bacterial infections vaginal, these types of products are widely available and probably your best bet at alleviating the symptoms of bacterial yeast infections.

However, there are few home remedies for bacterial yeast infections. The most popular home remedy would have to be the use of yogurt. Yogurt is especially good if used as a preventative measure as yogurt contains an active culture called Lactobacillus acidophilus. This bacterium is considered a part of the “good” bacteria and kills yeast by producing hydrogen peroxide. Yogurt can be used to treat an active yeast infection by inserting some into the vagina using any means necessary, just be sure the yogurt is plain (unflavored) and sugar free.

Some people claim that garlic has antifungal properties and that insertion of a clove wrapped in some cheesecloth is a great way to cure a mild to moderate yeast infection. For more severe bacterial yeast infections it is probably best to go ahead and consult a doctor.
