The Natural Way: Alcohol Detox at Home
Alcohol detox symptoms or withdrawal signs mean that a detoxification program is necessary to help clean your system from all alcohol, and this can be done in one of two ways. You can use a natural alcohol detox program, which includes alcohol detox at home, or you can enter into a facility that involves medical supervision and a clinical program for detoxification. After alcohol has been used frequently for a period of time, your body becomes used to the substance and you will suffer from alcohol detox symptoms. Alcohol detox at home is possible in most cases and is considered a form of natural alcohol detox, but caution must be used because at times some symptoms of the withdrawals may become life threatening.
The first step with an alcohol detox at home program is to check with your physician. There are some reasons why this may not be advisable for you, such as other medical conditions that you may have, extremely high tolerances due to drinking large quantities of alcohol every day, or other factors. Only your doctor can help you determine which method is best for your specific situation. If you and your physician decide an alcohol detox at home is appropriate, you may receive a prescription for a light sedative, like Valium or the equivalent, with a dose that slowly lowers until stopped. A multivitamin supplement can also be very helpful, and a nutritious diet including plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins is important as well. Make sure you have a support system set up for the rough times during the detox process because this is invaluable and can help you succeed.
