Best investment choices for geothermal energy companies; updated article

Updated data on actual progress in the geothermal energy topic as well as electrical dollar output that be converted to a return on investment.

There are many benefits to geothermal energy, one of which is that it is much better for the environment than many other ‘non-green’ sources of energy. With the use of modern technology, scientists have discovered that the total recoverable power from geothermal energy sources could be up to 12,200 Gigawatts. This number is 15 times higher than the U.S.’s electrical load at peak times. We are not close to getting all that yet, but it looks promising for the geothermal energy future. With R&D investments of $1 billion (which is about the cost of a coal power plant), it is possible to that we will have a 100 Gigawatts capacity by 2050.

The geothermal energy future is bright and a lot of growth is predicted, especially as the need for the elimination of harmful fossil fuels and foreign oil dependence keeps growing. The most promising areas in the U.S. for geothermal energy production is in the southwest part of the country. The production of geothermal energy has almost no greenhouse gas emissions and it does not require the purchase of fuel. This energy source is renewable and sustainable. Renewable energy stocks and geothermal energy companies offer tremendous opportunities for investors. There are even more investment options available with public geothermal energy companies.

A great way of geothermal energy investing is through renewable energy stocks. Investing in geothermal energy companies is not risk-free, or course, so it’s important to do some thorough research beforehand. If you are thinking of investing in geothermal energy companies, the best ones to choose are those located close to geothermal hot spots. EGS - Enhanced Geothermal Systems, produces heat by harnessing the energy from hot rocks which are very deep below the surface of the earth. The potential from this in the US is 15,000 gigawatts, which is huge! There are many technical challenges though as you have to go deep to access this energy.

Geothermal investments in Canada have really taken off. The 2009 Geothermal Power Investment Workshop in Calgary was really enlitening. Geothermal w talked about as the "King of Renewables." This is because it has consistent base-load power production. The emissions are very low and the consequent environmental footprint. This type of power is also CO2 free.

Geothermal energy is really an interesting source of energy production and should be developed more. But convincing people to buy stocks into these companies and give them the capital to work with is hard.
