What are some causes of chronic sinus infections? I feel like I constantly have one!

There are multiple causes of chronic sinus infections in their nature. The actual causes are not fully understood by the modern medicine as there are sometimes multiple reasons for your chronic sinus conditions and they are hard to diagnose. One might have anatomically small nasal passages that impede proper sinus drainage creating perfect breeding grounds for bacterial growth. In other cases, the causes of chronic sinus infections can lie in allergies and sinusitis caused by everyday substances in the air we breathe like dust or air pollutants.

However, in most cases there’s usually bacterial inflammation present that does not go away completely after a sinus infection antibiotic treatment and is just “covered-up” temporarily. If you are experiencing sinus headaches, constant yellowish-green sinus drainage, discomfort or pain in your nasal tissues, accompanied by a low grade fever, chances are you have a classic maxillary sinus infection. Maxillary sinus infection is extremely hard to treat due to being spread in hard to reach tissues, therefore causing you to have maxillary sinus infection relapses.

There’s a lot you can do naturally to prevent the onset of allergies or sinusitis at home. Limit sugar intake in the form of processed starches, like white rice, pasta, white bread, packaged pastries, and other unhealthy treats. One with sinus problems should entirely avoid sugar-laden soda drinks or fruit juice concentrates. The simple sugars contribute to your causes of chronic sinus infection. Eat a diet full of fresh vegetables and fruits, complex carbohydrates and lean protein for a foundation of healthy immunity. Supplement your diet with high-quality pure fish oil for and DHA properties necessary for proper immune system function. Getting lots of sleep and moderate amounts of exercise has been proven very effective in preventing chronic sinus conditions.

There is a fantastic book, "Drink Your Troubles Away" - John Lust. Out of print but used copies are still available on Amazon. My friend had tried absolutely everything for her sinusitis and we looked in John Lust's little book for any natural advice he could give. Fresh horseradish root (grated, one teaspoon) with some fresh lemon juice. She followed this "treatment" and within three days her severe sinusitis was gone! Better than all the antibiotics and operations, totally natural and safe.

Keeping an eye on your diet is an excellent place to start! Glad to read more props there! Neti pot, vaporizer, even accupuncture are other natural things to try. Also if things get chronic make sure you are aware of all your options. Sinus surgery used to be the only choice but newer less invasive stuff like balloon sinuplasty are becoming more popular. :)
