Top 10 Ways to Cure Itchy Rash – updated article

In a feature we ran last year we talked about natural methods that can be used to cure itchy rash. It might not be the most pleasant of topics, but it is important to have a list of effective remedies that you can find around the house or easily purchase on the local shop.

Aloe Vera is a multi-purpose therapeutic plant. Keep one of these in your house so that you have an unlimited supply!

St. John’s Wort is used to treat depression, but it can also be used to revitalize the skin, and cure an itchy rash!

Chamomile – the essential oil, not the tea. This oil is packed full of anti-inflammatory properties, and is great for curing rashes. Chamomile tea is well-known for its calming properties, and it also calms the skin when we use it as an essential oil!

Oatmeal Bath is a good itchy rash treatment method. Sprinkle oatmeal into your bath and it will act as a calming agent that is great for helping to cure your itchy rash.

Olive Oil is a great all purpose natural oil that can be applied to any rash, and its powerful moisturizing properties should help relieve the itch.

Baking Powder is a proven itchy skin cure. Sprinkle some baking powder into your bath tub, or conversely make a paste out of it and apply it to the infected area.

Ice pack. Ice is great for many skin issues, and is a simple and effective itchy rash treatment. By applying an ice pack to the rash, you numb the area and gain relief

Calamine Lotion has powerful moisturizing and soothing properties, and is an effective itchy skin cure, and very easy to apply.

Pine Tar Soap. Lather up some pine tar soap in the shower and rub into onto the itchy area. Pine tar has good moisturizing properties.

It is important to avoid deodorant soap and other such chemical substances when you have an itchy rash. These could just exacerbate the problem. An itchy rash should not be exposed to summer sun, and should not be allowed to dry out. The more moisturized it is, the faster it will heal.

In terms of diet, if you have re-occurring itchy rashes it may be worth looking at what you take in on a daily basis. There are certain foods, vitamins and minerals that are considered good for skin that is susceptible to rashes. These are Omega 3’s, Flaxseed oil, avocados, walnuts, and zinc as well as Vitamins A, C and E supplements. For the original story, and further information on ways to cure an itchy rash, click here

Just wanted to say I have a huge rash covering my front body and behind my legs. The Aloe Vera works wonders. I woke up in the middle of the night and didn't want to take a bath, so I put on Aloe Vera. This morning I was itchy again and did an Oatmeal bath. Loved it. It's hydrating and sooths the rash. Thank you for all the tips! I would have been itchy and misrable!

I tried almost everything.. from dermatologists prescriptions to most advertised products from the internet for itches .. nothing works. I have psoriasis/eczema on my legs, elbows, and back and the itch is very intensive that sometimes I cry. I tried to read alot about my condition, like I understand nedicine.. but fortunately, I found some mixtures that I am using up to the present time. It's a mixture of vicks vaporub & emu oil. Itches disappear but, redness and flaky skin is still there. So, I further my study on my condition. My new discovery is a mixture of extra virgin olive oil & sorbelene. and I tell you it helps me out. When I was still seeing my dermatologists she prescribed humira injection for me, but I had a stroke from it. I was put in the hospital for more than a month and the result from my stroke, I am still trying to work out. "BE CAREFUL WITH ALL THIS PRESCRIPTIONS, THEY MIGHT KILL YOU. EVEN IF THEY'RE PRESCRIBED BY WHAT THEY CALL ..A SPECIALISTS"

Yes, Witch Hazel is great. When my grandson was a little over one, I noticed he kept scratching his leg. I found that he had been bitten by a mosquito that left a very big bump. So the only thing I had in my cabinet was the WH. I put it on him. Not only did it stop the itching immediately, but most of the bump went down in a few minutes. Now I faithfully use this when we have been bitten by mosquitoes, and immeditately it works. Also, my grandson suffers from eczema and I use WH for this also, and it really works. Just make sure that you use cotton ball, not toilet paper. Rub each area that itches until it stops. This is mostly all he needs to stop the itching now. Before this, my grandson's mother would take him to the hospital, but one day they left him with me while going on a vacation, and everyday I put WH on him every time he itched, and by the time they can back, he was healed from itching and the redness was gone and they did not have to take him to the hospital. Also use dial soap without color. Dial is what they tell us to use to kill germ before you have surgery. Also, stay away from hot water. I know it is hard, so just treat yourself once a month, if you can't stay away from it. Finally, my son and grandson use Vaseline on their skin to hold moisture in and prevent dryness. It has worked for them for many years. And they have the most beautiful skin ever. I don't recommend petroleum jelly because I feel it is too heavy. Although I have read articles from some critics that say petroleum can clog your skin, but from my experience, my children haven't had any problems using Vaseline and they hardly suffers from eczema anymore after using these method to keep them from itching and eliminating dry skin.

Witch hazel is also great for razor burns when you shave your legs. I always have a bottle of this stuff in the house exactly for this reason. I've never heard of pine tar soap, however. Where can you get it? I would love to see how well it works.
