Temper Tantrums: A Phase or a Sign of Trouble?
All parents dread the time when their children have temper tantrums. New studies have shown that some types of temper tantrums may be normal, but some may be the beginning symptoms of longer term emotional and behavioral problems.
A research group at Northwestern University have designed a tool that can be used to differentiate whether a child is exhibiting tantrums that may be associated with other emotional and potential behavioral problems. The questionnaire will offer the ability to identify the type of tantrum and will eliminate possible over diagnosis or medication for those that are within a common range. The tool also assists in identifying and helping younger children that may be experiencing a struggle with mental health problems. Early diagnosis for the correct situation is paramount in all circumstances.
