    E. coli is a fecal form of bacteria, and is mainly transmitted in fecal form or growing in the large intestine. Many forms of E. coli are not harful but instead helpful, and like sarah said, it would be quite difficult for E. coli to survive in your drinking water unless it was a type of "drug resistent" E. coli that can form in those types of environments but that is quite unlikely because of the chlorine in the water even though it is such scarse amounts. You will be fine, dont worry

you don't hear that much about E. coli in the drinking water, because in the U.S. there is chlorine in the water systems which won't allow E. coli to survive.

Thank you for stating that e. coli is not always a bad thing. Many people automatically hear e. coli and think that there is some epidemic going on when what is being mentioned is actually the natural strain that resides in the human body. I don't think a lot of people understand that there are numerous strains.
