Drought Hurts Fifth Generation of Midwest Farmers

One would think that investing in the bread basket of the world would be a no-brainer, especially because five family generations have managed it successfully. But, no one anticipated drought conditions that occurred in the Midwest, least of all the farmers.

Millions of head of cattle had to go up for auction this year, mainly because there was no food for them to eat. Industries across the board are going to feel the hit due to the drought, even if they were remotely associated with the farming industry. Even the government requirements for increased ethanol for gasoline is being questioned, when there is nothing to produce it with. There have been a number of Farm Bills that have been submitted in the past, to address just such a crisis, but not one of them was passed and in place.
