Eating four to five small meals during the day keeps your metabolism going steady so you keep burning calories. Otherwise, you’ll have lulls where your body won’t be burning anything, and you’ll be losing valuable fat burning chances. The best snacks combine lean protein with healthy carbs, such as a cheese wedge and an apple. The apple makes you feel full while the protein gives your metabolism a bigger boost because it is more difficult to digest and requires more energy.
Don’t Skimp Too Much on Calories
A big mistake dieters sometimes make is dropping their calorie intake too low. That sends the body into starvation mode and can make your metabolism almost come to a standstill. Instead, you should reduce your calories by about 10% and keep exercising. Keep lowering your calories down a little at a time until you reach the appropriate calorie intake goal.
Drink More Water
Having those eight glasses of water a day will do more than have you rushing to the bathroom every couple of hours. The water keeps you properly hydrated and that’s important for your metabolism since a dehydrated system can’t function efficiently.
Always Eat Breakfast
You should never skip the first meal of the day if you’re dieting. Because your body’s metabolism won’t rev up until you eat something, denying yourself until lunch means you’ll be missing out on several hours of calorie burning time. Plus, you’ll just end up eating more later in the day to make up for the meal.
