Are there any natural treatments for the gastric flu?

Gastric flu, stomach virus, intestinal flu, whatever you want to call this nasty sickness, it’s not fun at all. Symptoms range from fever, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, headache, chills, and the list goes on. Although nothing can be done to cure your ailing body from the gastric flu, there are some natural treatments that will help lessen the symptoms and speed up recovery. The good thing is the intestinal flu usually only lasts between 24 and 48 hours. Any more time than that, you will want to see a professional.

When it comes to natural remedies, it looks like Mother knows best. Let’s look at some natural treatments for the pesky stomach virus.

1.Sleep
Nothing does a body good like good old fashioned sleep. Sleep helps you body recover quicker than any other natural treatment. Not getting enough rest while you have the gastric flu can stretch out the suffering for a lot longer than necessary.

2.Liquids
Drink lots of liquids, especially water. Avoid soda, coffee and sugary juices. If you want to get over the gastric flu as fast as possible, ditch the Starbucks and drink at least eight glasses of water per day. If you can’t keep down the liquid, drink small sips throughout the day.

3.Chamomile
Whip up some chamomile tea to help calm the stomach and comfort symptoms. Chamomile has long been used as a natural remedy because of its calming effects on the body.

4.Salt/Broth
Salt is an electrolyte that is lost during vomiting and diarrhea. Sipping on broth or adding a little salt to your tea is a good way to replenish the essential nutrients in your system.
