Acute and Chronic Pancreatitis Treatment – Updated Article With Extra Information

Like every other organ in the human body, the pancreas plays a vital role. Firstly, it produces digestive juices which help push the food down to the small intestine from the abdomen. Secondly it helps in producing insulin. Insulin is important we need it to take in glucose from the food that we have consumed. When your pancreas is inflamed you suffer from a condition called pancreatitis. This inflammation occurs because instead of digesting the food in the body, the enzymes inside the pancreas start damaging the pancreas itself.

Pancreatitis Treatment

Pancreatitis can be acute or chronic. Both forms are serious and should be cured as soon as a diagnoses is made. Acute pancreatitis treament is different to chronic pancreatitis treament. Chronic pancreatitis may require you to take certain pain medications and follow a strict pancreatitis diet whereas in acute pancreatitis you are hospitalized and you are not allowed to eat anything.

Chronic pancreatitis is not severe but if not treated early it may destroy part of your pancreas. This hinders the pancreatic function which is why it is important to start a pancreatic diet. Patients suffering from chronic pancreatitis are required to follow a pancreatic diet which will help their pancreatitis to heal and will not allow aggravation. Your diet should include high levels of carbohydrates and low levels of fats. Apart from this pancreatic diet you should also avoid drinking alcohol which is the main culprit in the development of pancreatitis. Along with the pancreatic diet you may also be given pain medication and insulin, if needed. Insulin will only be given when the inflammation has been prolonged and the pancreas’ insulin production has been hindered.

Acute pancreatitis is a severe condition. If you are suffering from acute pancreatitis you will be hospitalized and will recieve medication through an IV because your body will be in no condition to accept any food or fluids. Vomiting and indigestion will make it impossible for you to eat or drink anything. When this happens, dehydration will usually occur leaving you weak. When you are hospitalized you will be given nothing to eat or drink through your mouth for the next several days, and your pancreas will be given rest and time to heal. Acute pancreatitis treatments is a serious affair. In some severe cases, a nasogastric will be inserted through the nostrils and into the stomach to suck out some of the digestive juices, giving the pancreas additional opportunity to heal and rest.

Pancreatitis is a painful condition and the main cause is through excessive drinking of alcohol. Once the alcoholic is kicked, 90 percent of pancreatitis is eliminated.

Please dont say use alcohol as sooner or later it rapidly brings you to a point were even a quarter of a glass will help make sure you end up swelled and in pain , this tends to happen 10 to 15 hours after drinking it. No alcohol is a must with any form of chronic pancreatitis as i know to well i to have this nightmare,i know people who have non alcoholic CP and they get irritated with alcohol, some new research is promising and is simple take vit c,with vit e ,selenium also,, be diligent cautious with selenium.do not use more than 100mcg a day as it builds up,watch for white blemishes on finger nails which means yo are takeing to much selenium. vit c about 500mcg. 200 or 300 vit e mcg. better still check the various trials done at manchester university regarding this approach. hope this helps fellow cp suffers . know doc truely understands the pain gallstones are bad when in bile duct but CP is 100 times worse ive had both, hence op to remove stones ercp ,then cp
