One of the natural sugar substitutes is called Stevia, and this is an herb which originates in South America. It is hundreds of times sweeter than table sugar but has few calories, it can be used as desired by diabetics, and it has a proven record of safety that goes back hundreds of years.

Luo Han Guo is another of the natural sugar substitutes available that you can choose from. This choice comes from a fruit native to China, and the extract of this fruit is a very potent natural sweetener. Chinese medicine has used this fruit extract for centuries and it is safe and proven to be effective. Luo Han Guo is two hundred and fifty times as strong as sugar concerning sweetness. Xylitol is another of the natural sugar substitutes you can find, and it is commonly found in chewing gum. Any of the natural options mentioned can be the best sugar substitute for diabetics, but there are some cases where only real sugar will do. If you are trying to ferment any food or beverage, real sugar is needed. For sweetness though, any of these natural choices can be used without affecting your insulin level, and they can be used in baking as well.

One of these is an herb called Stevia which has been used for hundreds of years, is completely natural, and contains nutrients in addition to a very sweet taste. The compounds found in this herb are what makes sugar substitutes so sweet in many cases, and it has no glycemic index or calories. Unlike many man made products, most natural sugar substitutes have nutrients included as well, and may help with digestion and good health. Birch sugar, also known as Xylitol, is another great choice, because this substitute is absorbed slowly and is very low on the glycemic index.

What is the best sugar substitute for diabetics? This depends on the product you are using, and the answer is usually naturally occurring compounds. These compounds are what makes sugar substitutes so sweet without all the calories. The best sugar substitute for diabetics is one that will not raise your blood sugar levels or cause a fluctuation in insulin production or use in your body. There are a number of different products to choose from, including Splenda, Equal, Stevia, and others. Remember that not all of these products are the same though, and some can be used for cooking while others will not work as well when heated up to higher temperatures.

The best sugar substitute for diabetics is one that gives you the taste you want without having any effect on your blood sugar or insulin activity. Natural sugar substitutes can include honey or molasses, but these substances contain natural sugar which can cause an increase in the levels in your blood. Other substitutes like Stevia and Splenda do not have these effects, and can be hundreds of times sweeter that normal sugar. This means that a very small amount has tremendous sweetening power. Use care when using large amounts of any sweeteners though, because you may experience stomach upset and diarrhea. Even if you have diabetes, you an still enjoy the sweet side of life by finding the best sugar substitute for diabetics in your situation.

Understanding how to control your blood sugar levels can save your life if you suffer from certain medical conditions, like diabetes

Some diabetes, like diabetes insipidus, are not caused by your blood sugar but have another cause instead

Kepping control of your blood sugar levels can prevent many complications which could cost you a limb, or even your life

Your blood sugar level is an important aspect of your health, and this level can actually become life threatening if it rises too high or drops too low. If you have diabetes, your blood sugar is critical to controlling the disease and living a healthy and complication free life. Complications of diabetes and problems with your levels of blood sugar can lead to changes in your lifestyle, medical problems, and even surgery and amputation of your legs and feet if your blood sugar is not controlled. Tips on ways that you can control your blood sugar can help you avoid complications of diabetes and prevent other medical problems from starting. If you catch the disease early enough you may not need to take medications, and some lifestyle and diet changes may be enough to keep your blood sugar under control without drugs.

Exercise can play a big part in your blood sugar level. When you are physically active, your glucose level will go down and stay lower for an extended time. If you include some physical activity every day, you will have fewer blood glucose, or sugar, problems. Sugar in your blood is used for physical activity, because it is the fastest and easiest form of energy, and staying physically fit and active will lower the chances of you developing diabetes and complications caused by high blood sugar levels. Frequent exercise will help control the level of sugar in your blood, and also prevent other medical conditions like obesity and other health problems.

Saturated fats can be almost as bad as sugar when it comes to health problems. Avoid saturated fats, and this will help you keep your blood sugar and fats under control. If you suffer from diabetes or blood sugar problems, it is important to eat a healthy and nutritious diet that is low in added sugar and saturated fats, and high in nutrients and fiber. Include plenty of water, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains, and eliminate fatty and sugary foods. This will naturally keep the sugar in your blood at a normal level, and avoid dumping large amounts of glucose into your blood. If you suffer from diabetes, even in the early stages, you may suffer from fatigue. A proper diet can help give you energy without making your diabetes worse by increasing the amount of glucose in your blood.

Diabetes insipidus is a type of diabetes that is not considered sugar diabetes, but is sometimes called water diabetes instead. In this type of diabetes you will notice an excessive amount of urine and frequent urination. You can become dehydrated very quickly if not enough fluid is taken in, and certain medications may cause you to become over hydrated and suffer from water intoxication. Your blood sugar levels with diabetes insipidus are not as critical, but you should still ensure that these levels stay normal.

Eating smaller meals and avoiding soft drinks and other sugary fluids can also help you control your blood sugar levels, and prevent any complications or health problems from diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus. The sugar levels in your blood can actually become life threatening, so controlling these levels is very important. Understanding the early signs of diabetes is also important, so that you can seek medical help and advice if you start to develop any of these signs and symptoms. Catching diabetes early is the main key to controlling this disease and your blood sugar levels successfully, and preventing any future complications and medical problems which can alter your life.

Recognizing the early signs of diabetes can help you stay healthy and diagnose the disease early

Frequent urination and excessive thirst are both early signs of diabete

Knowing and understanding the early signs of diabetes and how to control your blood sugar level is important in staying healthy and preventing full blown diabetes, and the need for insulin shots and the associated health problems. Diabetes insipidus can be a very serious disease that can cause many health problems. This disease may not be apparent at first, because the symptoms may be mild and not seem serious at first. This is why it is important to understand exactly what the early signs of diabetes are. If you notice any of these signs, you should make an appointment with your doctor to have a test done to rule out diabetes.

Diabetes is often overlooked in the early stages, and this can lead to more serious health issues later on. Early diagnosis and treatment of diabetes insipidus and diabetes mellitus can allow you to take control of the disease before it can get worse, and cause a number of other health problems which can become severe or even life threatening. If diabetes is not treated early, you could end up losing a foot or leg to the disease as well, and no one wants this. Diabetes is connected to your blood sugar level, so if you are diagnosed with this disease a key way to control it is to check your blood sugar levels often.

The early signs of diabetes can include the need to urinate frequently, a feeling of excessive thirst, hunger which can seem unbearable at times, and a weight loss that is unusual and does not reflect a change in your lifestyle or an attempt to diet. You may notice that you feel tired or fatigued more often, your vision may be blurry at times, and you can become irritable. All of these symptoms are warning signs that you may be developing diabetes.

Early detection of diabetes can prevent the condition from becoming worse, and may allow for treatments that are not life changing. If you have diabetes mellitus then controlling your blood sugar is important. In the early stages the disease may be controlled by diet and exercise, so early detection can help you prevent complications and make it much easier to control the disease without invasive shots and other treatments which can affect your life. You should make sure you realize what all the early signs of diabetes are, so you can get medical advice immediately if you develop any of these signs.

Ignoring some of the early warning signs of diabetes can allow the disease to become worse and cause serious health problems that can become life threatening if not treated. Early treatment can improve your chances of controlling the disease and preventing any of the complications that can occur. Exercising regularly can help your body control insulin and blood sugar levels, and keep you healthier and with lower stress levels. Eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables, along with plenty of water, fiber, and lean protein, can help you keep the amounts of sugars in your body to a beneficial level. These steps will also allow your body and organs to function efficiently, so you have adequate amounts of insulin, hormones, and nutrients.

The early signs of diabetes are a warning sign that should always be taken seriously and never ignored. There are many things that can cause these symptoms, and it may not be the start of diabetes, but because these symptoms can signal the onset of diabetes they should always be evaluated by your doctor. These symptoms will not go away just because you ignore them, and without early treatment diabetes can change your life significantly.

Blueberry leaf extract has been shown in several studies to lower blood sugar levels when taken daily

Blueberries contain a compound that inhibits the enzyme responsible for regulating glucose in our bodies

Blueberries also provide other health benefits, including reducing inflammation and lowering triglyceride levels in the blood

With the number of people suffering from diabetes on the rise, people are anxious to find ways to reduce blood sugar that work and will work consistently. Of course, most people never think to take a look at the muffin they’re enjoying with their coffee. Blueberry leaf extract has been shown to be highly effective not just in lowering blood sugar levels but possibly even in diabetes prevention.

Some Blueberry Basics

Blueberries are native to North America where they can frequently be seen growing wild. However, they are cultivated in other parts of the world, too. The first U. S. cultivations for the fruit were done on the East Coast and today Maine is one of the country’s largest producers of blueberries. In fact, just to pollinate the bushes that grow the berries in Maine, more than 50,000 beehives must be used. Obviously, the fruit can be used in many different ways but what’s most remarkable is the nutrients and other compounds it contains which can be good for us.

Blood Sugar Levels & Blueberries

Research studies using blueberry leaf extract have found that it can reduce blood sugar amounts by as much as 26%. In a study of 75 non-diabetic individuals, some were given blueberry extract while others were given a placebo before eating a meal. The placebo group had an average blood sugar level of 142 mg/dL while the blueberry group’s level was only 121 mg/dL. Another study involving patients with Type 2 diabetes found that taking blueberry leaf extract three times a day for two months reduced their blood sugar levels by an average of 33 mg/dL.

Why does a simple fruit have such a startling effect on blood sugar? Blueberry leaf extract contains a compound called caffeoylquinic acid. This compound is believed to inhibit an enzyme in the body known as glucose-6-phosphatase which is used to convert the sugars in food into blood sugar for our bodies. When the enzyme is inhibited, less of the glucose is converted which means less will be leftover in the bloodstream.

Other Important Blueberry Benefits

The blueberry, like many fruits, is rich in vitamins and other nutrients your body needs during the day. However, it’s also one of the lowest foods on the glycemic load index. It ranks about a 4 on a scale of 100. That means you can eat blueberries without having to worry as much about their sugar content.

Like cherries, blueberries also contain anthocyanins (this is the pigment responsible for the blue coloration) which are great compounds for fighting inflammation, including internal inflammation which may be linked to cardiovascular disease. Plus, these compounds can work as antioxidants which prevent some of the damage done by diabetes in the body. For example, it can stop the damage to the blood vessels leading to the retina. This damage causes vision loss and is the leading cause of blindness in the United States.

Blueberries have also been shown to lower the levels of triglycerides in the blood – triglycerides are related to cholesterol and can increase your risk of developing heart disease. Evidence also suggests blueberry leaf extract could help protect the brain from developing mental illnesses, Alzheimer’s disease, and stroke-related damage.

Moderation is the key if you want to safely combine diabetes and alcohol

If you have diabetes, you already know there are plenty of things you aren’t supposed to do. Drinking alcohol is usually considered one of them, but do you know why? The mixture of diabetes and alcohol could have dangerous short and long term complications for diabetics. However, some studies may be giving a green light to the combination of diabetes and red wine, at least in moderation.

The Effects of Alcohol on Diabetics

Before we can discuss how alcohol affects people who have diabetes, we need to look at how it affects people who do not have this disease. Most of what you consume is broken down in your stomach so you can absorb the nutrients but alcohol doesn’t work that way. Instead, it passes through your body and into your blood very quickly and without being broken down. Only the liver gets a chance to break down alcohol which it tries to do as quickly as possible because your body views alcohol as a poison that needs to be removed quickly.

If you are diabetic, alcohol works in about the same way. The only risk comes when you don’t have enough glucose in your body for energy. For example, if you’re drinking on an empty stomach, you could be putting your body at risk from rapidly falling blood sugar levels.

Normally, if your blood sugar stops dropping too low, the liver is going to jump into action to save the day by releasing stored glucose in your body. That gives you the boost you need until you can begin taking in glucose on your own. However, if you have even a little alcohol in your system, your liver will not take this action. That’s because it views eliminating the alcohol to be a more important priority. That’s why diabetes and alcohol consumption can be a bad combination, especially for Type 1 patients and for Type 2 patients who are also on medications or insulin that already works to lower glucose in the body.

Diabetes and Red Wine

Despite the risk of low blood sugar, an occasional drink of alcohol is usually acceptable for most diabetics. Red wine can be an excellent choice for that drink for a number of reasons. The skin of the grapes used to make red wine contains compounds called resveratrol. A study conducted on mice in labs found that resveratrol helped reduce their insulin resistance, one of the causes of diabetes. Although the study’s findings haven’t been repeated in humans yet, it suggests that red wine could do some good for diabetics.

Recommendations for Diabetes and Alcohol

If you do drink alcohol, don’t do it on an empty stomach or for two to three hours after exercise. Make sure to combine your drinking with food, preferably healthy food, so you can keep your glucose levels high enough. Also, opt for drinks that are going to add fewer calories and less sugar to your system, such as light beers and diet drink mixers. Make sure to drink slowly so your liver can keep up with your intake more easily. And, whether you’re diabetic or not, don’t drive after you’ve consumed alcohol.

Cinnamon has been shown in at least two published studies to reduce blood sugar levels in patients

MHCP, a compound found in cinnamon, may be responsible for the reduction because it can actually do insulin’s job in the body

One study also found that cinnamon can lower LDL cholesterol by as much as 26%

Cinnamon is definitely a powerhouse of taste. A few sprinkles on piece of toast or on top of some apples can add a little sweetness and kick. For diabetics, however, cinnamon extract may be more than just a delicious add-on to favorite foods it may also be an important part of overall blood sugar control. Some studies have shown that cinnamon may play a role in diabetes prevention by helping those at risk of developing the disease keep their blood sugar levels within reasonable parameters.

Some Background on Cinnamon

Cinnamon is not just the name of a spice; it’s also the name of the tree from which the spice is collected. These small evergreen trees were once only found in Sri Lanka and the spice’s name is actually derived from Ceylon, the former name of the country. Up to 1% of the tree is made of aromatic oil which gives the spice its unique and beloved flavor. As early as 2000 BC, cinnamon was being brought to Egypt and other parts of the world. Although the Western world knew about the spice, they did not find out for themselves how to get it until the 16th century when Portuguese traders discovered the island.

Cinnamon & Blood Sugar

One study conducted in Pakistan involved about 60 patients who had been diagnosed and treated for Type 2 diabetes. Although they were on medications for the disease, they had not yet begun taking insulin. Each of the patients were given up to two teaspoons of cinnamon daily for 40 days. At the end of the study, the blood sugar levels had dropped significantly and their insulin production had even improved – a result the researchers had not anticipated. A re-test of levels 20 days later found the results were still in effect.

A more recent study conducted in Sweden with a group of 14 healthy patients found beneficial results for cinnamon, too. Half of the participants were given plain rice pudding; the other half was given rice pudding containing a dose of cinnamon. Those who had the cinnamon in their pudding showed lower blood sugar levels after eating than did the people with the plain pudding,

Why Does Cinnamon Have This Effect on Blood Sugar Levels?

The answer to why cinnamon seems to help patients keep their blood sugar under control can be found in one of the spice’s key ingredients known as methylhydroxychalcone polymer. Most of the research abbreviates the compound as MHCP. The research on MHCP has shown that it basically can function like insulin in the body. For example, it can help open the cells up for the glucose which removes it from the bloodstream. The MCHP can also work with insulin; the two combined actually strengthen one another which is why the subjects in the Pakistan study also saw improvements in their insulin production.

Other Health Benefits of Cinnamon

Another interesting discover from the diabetic research is that cinnamon doesn’t just help reduce blood sugar either. The subjects also saw reductions in their LDL cholesterol levels of up to 26% just by eating some delicious cinnamon every day. More research is needed and is already under way but until then there are plenty of good reasons to add cinnamon extract to your diet.

Sugar contained within the blood provides vital energy that your body needs to carry out essential functions. Hypoglycemia is a condition that comes about when you do not have enough blood sugar. Hyperglycemia is the opposite i.e. when your blood sugar levels are too high. Hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia can both cause conditions that can be a serious threat to your health. It is therefore important to have your blood sugar levels tested regularly so that any problems can be treated at the outset.
Blood sugar levels vary, depending on when you have eaten. Normal levels are between 70 mg/dL to 110 mg/dL upon waking, and rise to between 70 mg/dL and 140 mg/dL shortly after eating a meal.

Hyperglycemia and Diabetes

For those who do not have diabetes, the body uses insulin (a hormone) to move glucose from the blood into cells. If you have diabetes, your body does not produce enough insulin on its own or it does not respond well to insulin. As a result, blood sugar levels build and this can cause damage to blood vessels, nerves and organs. High levels of blood sugar are called hyperglycemia. Treatments for diabetes aim to control blood sugar and maintain proper blood sugar levels in order to avoid such complications.

Hypoglycemia and Diabetes

Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia, happens when blood sugar (also known as blood glucose) falls below 70 mg/dL. Such a low blood sugar level can be caused by some medications used to treat diabetes. Symptoms of hypoglycemia can include: nervousness and shakiness, hunger, dizziness or light-headedness, confusion, difficulty speaking speech can be slurred), feeling anxious or weak, sleepiness and perspiration.

Hypoglycemia can be caused by missing a meal or eating an insufficient amount of snacks. It can also be caused by high levels of exercise or exertion or by too much alcohol. Diabetes medication or insulin can also cause hypoglycemia if too much is taken.
You can avoid hypoglycemia by taking any medications you have been prescribed in the correct dosage. If there are any problems with your prescription, speak to your doctor or pharmacist. Make sure you eat regularly and that you don’t miss any meals.

Follow any dietary advice you have been given by your diabetes educator. In case you get hungry, make sure that you carry a healthy snack. This is especially important if you are going to be active or exercising. Be careful what you drink: alcohol can be a cause of hypoglycemia, particularly if you drink when you have an empty stomach. Always drink in moderation and always with a snack or a meal. Alcohol stays in your system and can cause low blood sugar levels up to two days after consumption.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/hypoglycemia-and-hyperglycemia2.jpg" alt="Proper Blood Sugar Levels" title="Proper Blood Sugar Levels" / >Treatment of hypoglycemia is usually straightforward. A quick snack should boost blood sugar back to safe levels. Around 15 grams of simple sugars or carbohydrates is usually sufficient. For example, 5 or 6 pieces of hard candy, half a cup of fruit juice, half a cup of regular soda (not diet!) or 1 cup of fat free milk. 15 minutes after you have eaten, test your blood sugar again. If it is still below 70mg/dL, have another snack and test again 15 minutes later. Remember that hypoglycemia can happen at any time, so make sure that you always carry a snack.

If hypoglycemia is severe, it can cause you to lose consciousness. Glucagon can be injected (usually in the arm or leg) to help raise blood sugar quickly. Glucagon is a hormone, and can be prescribed by your doctor if he or she thinks it might be necessary for you to have an emergency kit.

When you need to regulate your blood sugar, you can try Cinnergen solution.
Cinnergen supplement is used as a natural method to provide the nutrients you need to keep your blood sugar under control. The supplement works because of the ingredients used, and can help you lower your blood sugar and increase your insulin efficiency.
Any diabetic considering homeopathic help for their condition should consult their doctor to discuss whether such treatment could be appropriate.

Homeopathy is a particularly complicated area, practitioners believing that any remedy should include treatment of the whole person, not just the illness.

Blood Sugar Problems

Diabetes mellitus is a common medical problem caused either when your body is unable to produce insulin in sufficient amounts, or when your body’s cells are unable to use this insulin. This in turn prevents your body from being able to turn sugar into the energy it needs.

Conventional Symptoms and Treatments

Treatment for diabetes is about keeping the blood sugar at normal levels. Traditionally this has been done by administering insulin, or by glucose reduction therapy. Equally important though is maintaining a good diet whereby the blood’s sugar content is kept as stable as possible.

In the case that blood sugar levels are not kept within normal limits there are two possible extremes that diabetics must be prepared to cope with:

1. Hypoglycaemia – this happens when there are excessive amounts of insulin or sulphonylureas in the blood stream, although it can also be caused by lack of food or excessive exercise. In such circumstances it is important that some food is eaten quickly. Sweating, confusion and faintness are all warning signals that you should take action.

2. The opposite condition, hyperglycaemia, occurs when there is an excess of glucose in the blood. This could be because of lack of insulin treatment. Unless quickly treated, hyperglycaemia may lead to coma and death. Many diabetics will carry with them an insulin pen for quick treatment.

If your form of diabetes is such that your body is able to produce insulin but not in sufficient quantities then it is possible that by choosing your diet more carefully, as well as glucose reduction tablets you can manage your condition. In the case that your body produces no insulin, diet and insulin shots will be necessary.

Homeopathy as a treatment

A quick search on the internet shows many websites recommending various homeopathic treatments. These treatments generally contain minute quantities of a substance which in large quantities would actually cause adverse symptoms. Such treatment at low doses is believed by many to be of help. Although many doctors reject such alternative treatments, there are now several homeopathic hospitals working together with state health-care.

The following suggestions are found on the internet for helping to manage or treat diabetes, although I can provide no guarantee for their authenticity.
Because of the holistic nature of homeopathic treatment every patient should be individually analysed and a plan prescribed depending exactly upon their condition. Homeopathic remedies in general have no side effects.

One website recommended:

Phosphorus to stabilize blood sugar and energy levels
Codeinum: 3X four to six times daily for depression and skin irritation.
Syzygium: 1X every eight hours as a general remedy.

Another website went further suggesting that the individual causes of the diabetes should be taken into account:

Uranium nitrate – for diabetes originating from digestion problems (dyspepsia).
Phosphoric acid – useful for diabetes where a cause is due to grief, worry and anxiety.
Lactic acid – said to be useful when the cause is due to stomach and liver problems.
Bryonia – applied directly through the skin, again for causes due to liver problems.
Insulin – administered as drops in water, as with all homoeopathic remedies to be given in small doses.

Conclusion

Any diabetic considering homeopathic help for their condition should consult their doctor to discuss whether such treatment could be appropriate. Many health shops now sell homeopathic treatments without prescription. Remember though that homeopathic treatments are not said to work overnight, and it is said that it can take up to two years to regulate diabetes with homeopathy.

When you need to regulate your blood sugar, you can try Cinnergen solution.
Cinnergen supplement is used as a natural method to provide the nutrients you need to keep your blood sugar under control.
