The proper absorption of nutrients is needed for effective nutrition, and the bioavailability of all the nutrients required by your body for all the processes it goes through daily. Digestion is how your body absorbs nutrients, and this process starts when you chew the first bite and does not stop until the waste matter is eliminated from your body. A large part of the process occurs in your stomach and intestines, and the proper operation of these organs is critical to optimum nutrient absorption. Certain diseases, such as Crohn’s disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and other diseases that affect your intestines may interfere with the ability of your body to absorb nutrients. There are some things that you can do to help your body more effectively and efficiently absorb the nutrients in the foods you eat.

One natural remedy that can really improve your absorption of nutrients is called probiotics. This remedy involves the use of live bacteria cultures that are beneficial to your stomach, intestines, and nutritional absorption during the digestive process. Sometimes certain things can throw off the level of needed bacteria in your digestive tract, including antibiotics and other medications, stress, illnesses, and certain medical conditions. If you do not have all the good bacteria you need in your digestive tract, your body may have to work much harder to break down the food, and some of the nutrients may be lost in the process through waste. By adding the good bacteria which helps break down food and allows nutrients to be absorbed, probiotics will allow you to get more effective nutrition from the foods you eat and ensure that more nutrients are absorbed.

Another way to ensure effective nutrition and the proper absorption of nutrients is to eat specific types of foods together, so that the overall effect is much better when they are combined than when separate. When eating vegetables, a study at Ohio State University showed that adding a little heart healthy oil or fat will allow your body to absorb numerous times more of certain nutrients and phytochemicals than eating the vegetables by themselves. Some of these were lutein which keeps your eyes fit and healthy, beta carotene which protects your heart and prevents cancer, and alpha carotene which is also beneficial to your heart and keeps cancer at bay. Eating enough of the good fats in your diet will allow your body to absorb nutrients much better, so that you get more nutrients from less food and have optimum bioavailability.

The nutritional supplement bioperine can also help with the nutrients that are absorbed by your digestive system. You can also include a large amount of black pepper and other peppers in you diet instead, because all of these are rich in piperine which will help your digestive tract absorb nutrients better. This allows your body to operate more efficiently, and keeps you healthy and in better physical condition.

The key ingredients in boosting your nutrient absorption are foods and nutritional supplements which contain compounds that stimulate your digestion process and metabolism. Eating only warm and hot foods during meals will also allow maximum absorption of nutrients and a better bioavailability of nutrients. Many nutritional advisers believe that drinking cold beverages and eating cold foods during meals may actually hurt your digestion, and your ability to absorb all the nutrients in a food, and they recommend reserving cold items for small amounts in between meals. It is believed that this helps make digestion more efficient so you will absorb more nutrients during the process, and experience fewer digestive problems and medical illnesses and diseases.

No matter what kind of diet you may have, it’s always important to ensure that you’re getting all the necessary vitamins and minerals your body needs. This is where Trace Minerals comes into the picture, which includes calcium for strong bones and teeth, iron for building red blood cells and potassium for healthy nerves and muscles. It also includes zinc, magnesium, manganese, copper, iodine, selenium, and molybdenum – all essential for good health.

All of the low sugar cookies made by the company use the same high quality ingredients and standards, and this company is just as famous and popular for what their cookies do not have as they are for the fabulous moist taste. These baked goods are certified kosher, and the Nana Cookie Company offers a wide variety of cookie flavors and types, all of which are vegan. One of the reasons that everyone has started ordering these cookies, including health conscious celebrities like Madonna, is because they taste fabulous but are also extremely healthy. All of the cookies produced by Nana’s follow the well known Nanas No list, a list of products that are never used in any of the cookies for any reason. These ingredients are commonly found in commercial cookies, and can be a big source of allergens and other health problems. The list includes dairy products, refined sugars, trans fats, cholesterol, eggs, cane products, beet products, or preservatives. This means you never have to worry about what you or your family are eating, because these cookies are all natural and healthy, full of nutritional goodness. There are wheat free and gluten free varieties available as well, to meet any special dietary considerations you may have.

There are a large number of flavors to choose from, such as apple oatmeal, chocolate chip, fudge, banana, and berry flavors, among others. Each type of cookies is designed for certain health benefits, such as the O’Mega Fiber cookie Bars which can help you get and stay regular and healthy, by adding needed fiber to your healthy diet. Fruit cookies may also count as a serving of fruit in a healthy menu, depending on the specific cookie. The best part is the taste, because all of the varieties of cookie bars and bites made by the company allow you to enjoy your cookie with no guilt, because it is so healthy and nutritious.

Diabetes is one of the problems that many people suffer from today that can make eating tricky, and Nana’s cookies can be a big help if you have problems with your blood sugar levels. You do not have to go without fantastic tasting cookies simply because of a medical problem, or worries about nutrition and processed foods. Nanas Cookie Company makes eating a nutritious and healthy menu all the time easy, convenient, and delicious. With these cookies, dessert and snacks can be the healthiest part of your day. Whether you like peanut butter, different fruits, chocolate chip, ginger spice, or some other cookie flavor, the health benefits you will get from Nana’s cookies are much more numerous than those found in other cookies. Many store bought goodies are full of unhealthy fats, refined and processed ingredients, and they are also loaded with sugars. Eating heart healthy low sugar cookies can help you stay fit and healthy while feeling like you are indulging. A healthy menu can include Nana’s terrific cookies, better known for what they do not have, and that is preservatives and other harmful or low nutrition foods and ingredients.

Omega-3 fatty acids are a group of unsaturated fatty acids that are nutritionally very important. The essential omega-3 fatty acids are: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid and alpha linoleic acid (ALA). Omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids cannot be produced by the body. They are essential nutrients and therefore must be obtained from food. Nearly all polyunsaturated fat consumed in the human diet is from essential fatty acids. Omega-3 and omega-6 can be found in shellfish, fish, flax seed oil, hemp oil, rapeseed oil (canola), soya oil, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts and leafy vegetables.

Omega-3 and omega-6 are essential fatty acids (EFAs). They are called EFAs because they are essential to human metabolism. They play a critical role in numerous metabolic processes, and research has shown that a deficiency in essential fatty acids, or where the balance of EFA types is not right, that may be a contributing factor in the development of a number of illnesses, one of which may be osteoporosis.

The American Heart Association states that omega 3 EFAs can benefit the heart of healthy people and people who are at risk of cardiovascular disease. It recommends eating fish rich in essential fatty acids at least twice a week such as lake trout, herring, mackerel, sardines, salmon or albacore tuna.

Alpha linoleic acid may become omega-3 fatty acid within the body. The extent of the conversion maybe minimal, however, and further scientific research is required to fully assess the benefits. Good sources of alpha linoleic acid include soya beans, tofu, walnut, canola and flaxseed, and their oils.

Scientific studies have also shown that omega-3 fatty acids decrease the risk of arrhythmias. This is abnormal electrical activity in the heart which might cause the heart to beat either too fast or too slow, and it may also cause an irregular heartbeat. Cardiac arrhythmia can lead to death.

Omega-3 fatty acids can also decrease triglycerides which are a type of fat found in the blood. An excess of triglycerides in the blood (known as hypertriglyceridemia) is linked to the development of coronary artery disease.

Omega-3 fatty acids decrease the rate of growth of atherosclerotic plaque. Atherosclerotic plaque involves thickening and hardening of arterial walls caused by fat deposits on the inner lining of the artery. Atherosclerotic heart disease is known to be the leading cause of death in the United States.

Omega-3 fatty acids are also known to have a beneficial effect in slightly lowering blood pressure. They reduce inflammation and can provide protection against arthritis, cardiovascular disease, depression and skin conditions.

Omega-6 can assist with pre menstrual syndrome symptoms such as pain and bloating. It is also helpful in maintaining healthy nails, skin and hair and nails. It is beneficial in that it promotes emotional and hormonal balance.

The balance between omega-3 and omega-6 is critical to good health as they interact with one another. Combined, they affect the production eicosanoids which are hormonal type messengers. This has an important impact on all bodily functions at a cellular level as well as inflammation in the body.

Omega-9 may help prevent cardiovascular disease, stroke and arteriosclerosis.

Omega-3, 6 and 9 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats, and as such are healthier than saturated fats. They have a number of metabolic functions, and therefore maintaining a healthy balance through supplementation of omega fatty acids is worth consideration.

Most of us know we need more fiber in our diets but may be hesitant to start adding it in everyday. After all, there are plenty of foods advertising their fiber-rich content and how readily available they are at our local grocery stores. Does this really remind us of how important fiber really is? It is very possible that most of us don’t have a true idea of how much fiber we need or of how to increase our fiber intake without switching to a diet of bran muffins and whole grain cereal. Below are some guidelines to help you understand your body’s fiber needs and how to incorporate more fiber more easily into your eating habits.

How Much Fiber is Enough Fiber?

Fiber is considered a type of carbohydrate that our bodies are not capable of digesting. While that may seem like a waste of perfectly good food, fiber can actually help our bodies stay healthy in many ways. To understand those health benefits, we first need to understand the two types of fiber found in foods. The first type of fiber is called insoluble fiber. Insoluble means that the fiber will not dissolve in water. This fiber takes up a lot of space in our bodies, therefore it helps in promoting digestion and regularity. This is because insoluble fiber is capable of absorbing the water from the body and directly helping in waste elimination process. An important benefit of adequate fiber intake is easy and unstrained waste elimination which directly helps prevent the development of painful hemorrhoids or diverticulosis (the development of pouches in the colon).

The second type of fiber is called soluble fiber. Soluble means that the fiber can dissolve in water. When in the stomach, this type of fiber acts to prevent the stomach from emptying quickly, resulting in you feeling full longer. More importantly, it slows the digestive process which can help regulate blood sugar levels and can help bring down blood cholesterol levels. Both types of fiber need to be consumed if we are going to maintain a healthy system. Again, the question is how much fiber should we be eating? Men need to eat about 38 grams per day until they are age 50, then the recommended daily allowance drops down to 30 grams per day. Women, on the other hand, need about 25 grams per day until they turn age 50, then their RDA drops down to 21 grams per day. While those numbers may not seem unreasonable, you should realize that a single food is considered a good source of fiber if it contains at least 3 grams of fiber . Also, note that fiber is not going to be found in any of your animal products, including dairy and meat. This means you may need to re-evaluate your diet to find new ways of meeting daily fiber requirements.

Getting the Fiber You Need

First, it may be best to avoid relying on supplements as your daily requirement of fiber. You are better off adding fiber to your diet through the foods you eat. In this way, you benefit from the other nutrients, contained in those foods, which your body also needs. Plus, you are less likely to have bloating, gas and other problems associated with increasing your fiber too quickly with supplemental products. Secondly, go slowly. If you eat too much fiber in your diet too quickly, you could end up causing constipation instead of bowel regularity, because all of the water in your body is being absorbed by the fiber. More water is necessary as you increase the fiber levels. Start off by eating more fruit and vegetables if you need to increase your fiber. Most fruits are very rich in fiber, however, eat the whole fruit and skip buying the fruit juices as they contain high sugar, unless indicated that they are 100 % juice. Another way to increase fiber through food is to leave the peels on your apples when you eat them. The peels contain a good amount of fiber. Even eating the skin of your baked potato can increase the amount of fiber in your diet. In addition to eating more fruits and vegetables, consider switching from white bread products to whole grain products. Start the day by eating breakfast foods that are high in fiber, such as different types of cereal or even some natural granola bars. Contrary to the “jokes” about eating beans, these are excellent sources of fiber and can be a great addition to almost any meal. By working in more fiber to your diet slowly, you can improve your overall health and well-being. If you are having other health issues, seek advice from your health care professional as to the best ways to improve your overall health and diet program.

And don’t forget about other routes of making sure you get enough fiber into your diet, such as with all-natural dietary supplements like Digest Support, which encourages proper digestion by delivering the highest concentration of soluble fiber available without harsh chemical stimulation.

Protein is an essential nutrient for good health. Without sufficient protein, our bodies won’t be able to work as well as they should. For example, you won’t be able to build lean, healthy muscle nor will some of your body’s important functions, such as your immune system, work correctly. However, most of our protein sources are also high in fat so finding the right balance and eating enough protein for a healthy body can be a challenge. Below are some guidelines to help you determine how much protein you should have in your daily diet.

Your Daily Protein Allowance

A recommended daily allowance (RDA) has been determined for us, by the government, based on a combination of gender and age. The protein needs for children are relatively low at 16 to 28 grams for ages 1 to 10. When men and women hit adolescence, ages 11-14, their protein needs are about the same at 45 to 46 grams. However, women’s protein requirements lessen , to about 50 grams as they hit 25 + years, while men’s increase to about 63 grams. However, women do need more protein when they are pregnant – up to 60 grams.

While using an age/gender chart to determine your RDA may be an easy answer, our body size is another important part of determining our protein needs. The more we weigh the more protein we are going to need to keep our body working properly. There is some calculations you will need to do to determine your best requirements. Additionally, you also need to realize that your protein requirements are affected by your normal activity levels. Taking into consideration that most of us don’t exercise regularly, we would need about .36 grams of protein per pound of body weight. The more exercise and athletic you are, the more protein you are going to need.

Using these calculations, take your weight and multiply it by .36 giving you an estimated protein requirement per day. Therefore, an average person with a weight of 160 pounds would need about 57 grams of protein per day. An average person with a weight of 125 pounds would need about 45 grams of protein a day.

RDA protein = Food

Now that you know how much protein, on average, you should be eating daily, you need to understand how much protein is in the food you’re eating. Below are a few examples:

• 1 cup skim milk = 8 grams
• 1 egg = 6 grams
• ½ cup cottage cheese = 14 grams
• 1 slice bacon = 21 grams
• 1 ounce of peanuts = 7 grams
• 6 ounces of tofu = 12 grams
• 3 ounces of sirloin steak = 26 grams
• ¼ lb hamburger patty = 28 grams
• 1 ounce American cheese = 6 grams

As you can see, you don’t need to eat a lot of food to reach your RDA on protein, whether you use the easy chart or the calculation method. If you do want to indulge on protein, you are better off choosing foods derived from plants, such as peanuts and tofu, than animal products, such as cheese and meat, because of the higher fat content in the latter. Remember that moderation is always the key to healthy eating, even when you’re talking about eating your favorite foods.

And don’t forget about the dietary supplement route, which can also help you meet protein and various health goals. One such product is TwinLab CLA Fuel, which is effective in stimulating weight loss and building lean muscle mass.

Our bodies work like organic machines. To run at all, we need energy and to run well, we need the right type of energy. That right type of energy is derived from the food we eat and in particular, the nutrients in the food. It is unfortunate that most people may not have a clear understanding of what our bodies need to function at optimum efficiency. Information is easy to obtain and it is very important to be educated, especially about what and how much of these nutrients our bodies should have on a daily basis.

The Six Nutrients

To work well, our bodies are going to need six main nutrients every day. Those nutrients include carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water. When any of those ingredients are missing, we will feel the results. A deficiency in vitamins can cause weak systems allowing disease to invade. For example, in past history when sailors were on voyages for long periods of time without any citrus fruit available, they contracted scurvy because their bodies did not have enough Vitamin C.

The best way to be healthy is to be sure to have sufficient amounts of all six of these nutrients in your diet everyday. To achieve that goal, however, you need to learn a little more about each of them

Vitamins & Minerals -The intake of vitamins and minerals alone aren’t going to give your body energy. Instead, their job is to help your body convert what you eat into the energy you need. Without daily vitamins and minerals, your body will not work as efficiently. There are a large number of vitamins and minerals we need in our diets. You can look on almost any food label and see most of them: Vitamin C, Vitamin K, B12, riboflavin, and iron are just a few. Despite what you may hear or read about one vitamin or mineral being more important to your health than others, the truth is you need all of them because they all serve very important tasks within your body and they work synergisticly. If you do not know the appropriate levels to take of these nutrients, and do not have the time to educate yourself, then the best way to incorporate them into your regimen is to eat a balanced diet similar to what is suggested in the USDA food pyramid.

Protein, Fats, and Carbohydrates – One of the most dangerous misconceptions people have about protein, fats and carbohydrates, is that some of them can be completely and safely eliminated from the diet. Although you do not need to eat large amounts of protein, you do need some daily because the cells in your body need protein to keep functioning properly. Protein is most commonly found in meat, poultry, fish, and legumes. Without enough protein, your body does not build good, lean muscles or fight off infection.
Fats also needs to be consumed , however, in moderation. You might even need some fat diets for your body to function at its best. The structure of our cells and some of our organs is supported by these fats. Over consumption of unhealthy, saturated fats can raise cholesterol levels. Saturated fats are found in most animal-derived products. Avoid the saturated fats and look instead for fats from nuts and fruits because these are unsaturated and better for your body.
Carbohydrates are important nutrients. Diets that recommend no carbohydrate intake and diets that overly reduce your fat intake can have a dramatic, negative impact on your energy levels and on your overall health. Carbohydrates are absorbed in the form of glucose, galactose, or fructose. These sugars are available for direct utilization in energy production or they may be stored after conversion to glycogen for reserved energy. Excess sugars not needed for immediate energy or stored for reserve are then stored as fat. These compounds are our body’s chief source of energy so we need them. However, because they can turn into sugars and help us gain weight, we do not want more of them then our bodies need for energy. Avoid simple carbohydrates, such as candy bars, which may give you a quick jolt of energy. This quick energy will not last and can cause your body to feel worse after the initial energy has been used. Instead, eat complex carbohydrates such as potatoes, vegetables, rice, and bread. The energy from these carbs will give your body a longer period of energy burn that it needs to adequately and more efficiently work.

Water – Everyone knows that we cannot exist or live long without water. Although we can go for a long time without the proper nutrients, our bodies absolutely need water to function. Water flushes out unwanted toxins from our bodies, helps regulate our body temperature, and keeps our organs hydrated so they can keep working correctly. Drinking liquids that are water based but not sugar filled are fine. However, it is important to avoid liquids containing sugar or caffeine because these can interfere with the proper hydration of our bodies. For example, coffee and tea are water based but they have diuretic properties that help eliminate urine and hydration is reduced. Carbonated water is acceptable but some people think that the carbonation can have negative effects on the body, such as, reduced lung capacity in athletes.

If you want to stay healthy, educating yourself on what is best for your body’s nutritional balance is vital. Helping yourself by doing all you can do for your body, can be as simple as ensuring that you are consuming all of these nutrients as part of a balanced diet daily. Read your food product labels and know what you are or are not getting in the nutritional content of the food you buy and eat everyday.
