Recent studies have shown that having higher levels of natural antioxidants in the body may actually result in a decline in Parkinson’s disease and provide health benefits for the Parkinson’s patient. This study ties rare disease to antioxidant concentrations in the body.

Recent studies have shown that having higher levels of natural antioxidants in the body may actually result in a decline in Parkinson’s disease and provide health benefits for the Parkinson’s patient. This study ties rare disease to antioxidant concentrations in the body.

The study from Harvard researchers showed that Parkinson’s patients with the highest amounts of antioxidant urate found in their blood were 36% less likely to require treatment for early Parkinson’s symptoms and they actually showed a decline in Parkinsons disease. The health benefits of the higher levels of antioxidants result in less likelihood of trembling symptoms and stiffness in the limbs that are commonly found among Parkinson’s patients.

Researched determined that by increasing the amount of urate there was a decline in Parkinson’s disease. The study ties rare disease like Parkinson’s directly to the concentrations of urate levels in the body. This has proven to be a very promising find for researchers and the patients suffering from this disease. Since urate occurs naturally in the blood, patients were cautioned against trying to increase the level of urate levels on their own through health supplements or diet. An excessive amount of urate in the blood can cause a condition known as gout. Excessive urate levels can also cause kidney stones and increase the risk of heart disease.

More studies are underway but the current research is very promising for Parkinson’s patients. The current study was sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, the Parkinson Disease Foundation and Parkinson Study Group.

More research shows the design of hospital facilities plays role in patient health outcomes. Hospital design is now a much more inclusive process and incorporates the input from several teams of people including doctors and nurses who care for patients on a daily basis. Over 1500 studies show that proper design has overwhelming health benefits for patients and staff. Patient stress is reduced, medical errors are reduced, and cancer treatment and recovery rates improve. This kind of overwhelming evidence that the proper design of hospital facilities plays role in overall patient health has hospital administrators rethinking the way they want their hospitals to look and feel.

We are all familiar with the double occupancy rooms that separate patients with only a flimsy curtain. These types of rooms that are the norm are now being phased and single patient rooms with more privacy are being phased in. Other design alterations include larger windows to let in natural light, incorporated nature scenes that have been shown to reduce pain, as well as sinks right inside the door so that nurses and doctors can wash their hands. All of these alterations are being implemented because of evidence that shows health benefits increase because the design of hospital facilities plays role in improved patient health.

Insurers who pays the bills are concerned that these new facilities do nothing more than make the building more attractive, but it is hard to deny studies such as the one coming out of a hospital in Michigan showed that noise using noise reducing materials and improved airflow improved cancer treatment and infections by 11%.

When considering who should get the HPV vaccine it is important to consider the side effects of the HPV vaccine, the age of the potential patient, and the potential need to be vaccinated from the HPV virus. The HPV virus vaccine for young men and women can be taken as early as 9 years of age. Considering that the HPV vaccine protects against the world’s most common sexually transmitted disease opponents of the vaccine say it can contribute to sex at an early age.

So who should get the HPV vaccine? If a person abstains from sexual activity they are in no danger of getting the HPV virus. Men and women who have multiple sexual partners should get vaccinated as they are at much higher risk of contracting HPV. Studies also show that homosexual males are 17 times more likely to contract HPV than heterosexual males. The statistics for the general population are also staggering. 50% of males are thought to have the disease and up to 80% of women will get it before reaching the age of 50. The HPV virus vaccine for young men is called Gardasil while women can take either Gardasil or Cervarix. The side effects of the HPV vaccine Gardasil have caused quite a controversy which has lead many doctors to boycott the drug until it can be made safer. Side effects of the HPV vaccine include seizures, blood clots, and even death.

A thorough interview and study of medical history of patients should be done by medical practitioners that are evaluating who should get the HPV vaccine before it is recommended.

Gardasil can be used by both men and women while its competition Cervarix is for women only. Human papillomavirus is the most widespread of all sexually transmitted diseases and infects up to 50% of men who are sexually active as well as 80% of women before they reach the age of 50.

Now that both women and men are getting vaccinated the likelihood of a drop in HPV is much more of a reality than before. As far as who should get the HPV vaccine and when has been up for debate. Opponents say that recommending an STD vaccine for boys and girls as young as 9 encourage sex at an early age. The side effects of the HPV vaccine Gardasil have also caused a controversy. There have been a reported 32 deaths related to the HPV vaccine for young men and women as well as many cases involving serious side effects as blood clots and seizures.

The main difference between the HPV virus vaccine for young men and women is that the vaccine targets genital warts in men and cervical cancer in women. It should also be noted that the vaccine Gardasil can also protect men from anal, penile and esophageal cancer.

Gardasil protects against 4 strains of HPV compared to Cervarixs’ 2. It would make sense that Gardasil would be the vaccine of choice but the serious side effects of the HPV vaccine Gardasil have made room for the competition. Until different vaccines are made the HPV virus vaccine for young men remains Gardasil.

Angina can be described as a squeezing and compressing chest pain that occurs when there is tightness in the heart muscle. Symptoms of angina attack include radiating pain in the arms, shoulders, neck, back and even jaw. Most of the time the symptoms of angina attack can be mistaken for indigestion, which is why this type of pain should not be ignored but carefully examined.

People usually misdiagnose themselves with indigestion and when a doctor mentions angina they are left asking themselves, what is angina? Thorough research and information obtained from your physician can give you a better understanding of your symptoms and if they line up to stable or unstable angina.

Whether you experience stable or unstable angina the overall symptoms are the same.
Stable angina presents a predictable pain that comes on during over exertion or heightened stress. Normally stable angina disappears with rest. Unstable angina, however, is unpredictable and the pain may occur even during times of rest. Unstable angina pain usually signals a possible heart attack. If you suspect stable or unstable angina it is best to have the symptoms checked by your doctor right away.

Most angina symptoms can be curbed by prescribed medication. The angina medication can provide relief from the chest and arm pain and eliminate the progression of a heart attack in the event of unstable angina. When experiencing symptoms of angina attack, careful rest is needed and if symptoms continue, see your doctor.

There is no magic exercise that can be recommended for preventing cancer. However, breast cancer facts show that exercise can prevent breast cancer, or at least aid in the process of fighting cancer cells. The key lies with the body mass index or BMI. Exercise makes the body lose fat and burn calories, thus lowering the BMI and reducing the risk of breast cancer. Another way exercise helps is by delaying a woman’s menstruation and lowering her exposure to estrogen.

Getting breast cancer facts and facts in general about preventing cancer is the first step. With regard to prevention the exercise way, a woman should strive to take 10,000 steps a day, which would be around five miles. You can buy a pedometer to measure how many steps you take. The body mass index should be between 18.5 and 25 in order for your body to fight against breast cancer.

Throughout the day, look for ways that you can take extra steps. Use the stairs instead of the elevator. Park a distance from work, or park at the far end of the parking lot when you go shopping, and walk the extra distance.

You can encourage your daughters to beat cancer cells by having them begin exercising early. This can postpone their period and expose them to less estrogen. They can play sports at school or join a gym with their friends. Teach them that exercise can prevent breast cancer and get them excited about doing it.

A better way to teach your children that exercise can prevent breast cancer is by exercising faithfully yourself. Shoot for those 10,000 steps every day and see how much fat you can lose and how many calories you can burn off.

A recent study conducted by the National Institutes for Health has found a link between Gaucher’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. The results of the study ties rare disease called Gaucher’s to Parkinson’s disease because of a specific mutation in the gene that causes Gaucher’s. When a study ties rare disease factors that can cause another disease it can lead to significant health benefits due to possible new finding on disease behaviors and causes. The study has great potential that could eventually cause a decline in the disease that has plagued millions of people including celebrity Michael J. Fox and former NBA basketball player Brian Grant.

The study found that people who carry the gene that causes Gaucher’s were five times more likely to get Parkinson’s disease. Researchers often say that it is important to study rare disorders like Gaucher’s in order to learn more about common disorders like Parkinson’s.

With further research and study the potential health benefits that could lead to a decline in Parkinson’s have researchers excited to move forward to the next phase of their investigation. As the study ties rare disease factors together such as the link between Gaucher’s and Parkinson’s, people who carry the Gaucher’s gene can proactively attempt to ward off the onset of Parkinson’s.

The researchers found that the gene mutation was not specific to any one ethnic group. The results were equal among all ethnic groups as the study was conducted throughout different countries. Researchers hope to develop new therapeutic strategies leading to a decline in Parkinson’s and Gaucher’s.

So you’ve heard about the amazing health benefits of phytoestrogens, especially for menopausal women whose bodies are short on estrogen. Plant-based compounds that act like estrogen in the body, called phytoestrogens, can relieve symptoms of menopause and may even help protect against breast cancer. But there have also been studies indicating that soy, a primary source of phytoestrogens, could possibly promote tumor growth in women at higher risk for breast cancer or with a history of the disease.

What are the breast cancer facts, then, relating to phytoestrogens? Studies performed on American women have shown a breast cancer risk six times that of Asian women who typically consume diets high in soy phytoestrogen. When Asian women migrate to the U.S. their risk increases. Many American women have taken this as a sign that upping their phytoestrogen intake will protect them from breast cancer. New research from the Netherlands indicates that this is not the case, but this research focused on women consuming phytoestrogen from fruits, nuts, grains, and seeds, not the soy and flaxseed that makes up much of an Asian’s diet.

Studies are somewhat contradictory, but it’s important to keep in mind that there are many other differences between the typical American and Asian woman, including exercise, time of menstruation, vegetable intake, overall calorie consumption, and body type. Since the effect of phytoestrogens on female hormones needs more study before a final determination can be made, be sure to discuss the possible pros and cons of increasing your phytoestrogen consumption. And it’s always a good idea to discuss breast cancer facts with your doctor when female hormones begin declining at the menopause stage in life.

Everybody sweats. It’s your body’s natural, healthy internal “air conditioner.” Sometimes, however, something breaks down in the body and causes frequent or constant, excessive sweating. This is called hyperhidrosis, which is diagnosed when your body produces more sweat than is needed to cool the body, and generally affects your palms, soles of your feet, and underarms. Fortunately, doctors have developed several treatment methods to treat overactive sweat glands.

For less severe, localized hyperhidrosis, your doctor may prescribe an aluminum chloride antiperspirant. If you have overactive skin sweating all over, an anticholinergic drug may work better for you. These drugs block the actions of acetylcholine, which stimulates sweat glands in the body. Acetylcholine, however, has a variety of potential side effects since it affects several other structures in your body as well.

A more exotic way to treat overactive sweat glands, excessive skin sweating or the overall causes of sweating, is via iontophoresis, which temporarily blocks the glands by administering a low-level electrical current to hands or feet while you’re immersed in water. This treatment is safe and often done at home, once a day for about two weeks then less frequently thereafter.

You’ve probably heard of Botox as a way to smooth wrinkles, but did you know that Botox injections can also treat overactive sweat glands by blocking specific nerves? It’s not a permanent solution, however, and treatments can be painful.

Finally, surgical options are available for certain severe causes of sweating. Sweat glands can be removed, or the nerves that carry messages to the glands cut. Eliminating hand or armpit sweating, however, may increase sweating elsewhere. Consult your doctor on the best choices for your particular situation.

What is angina? Angina can be described as squeezing chest pain and occurs when there is tightness in the heart muscle. Symptoms of angina attack also include radiating pain the arms, shoulders, neck, back and even jaw. Most of the time the symptoms of angina attack can be mistaken for symptoms of indigestion which is why this type of pain should not be ignored but carefully examined.

There are two types of angina, stable or unstable angina. Stable angina exhibits a predictable pain that comes one during overexertion or heightened stress. Normally stable angina disappears with rest. Unstable angina, however, is unpredictable and the pain may occur even during times of rest. Unstable angina pain usually signals a possible heart attack. If you suspect stable or unstable angina it is best to have the symptoms checked by a physician.

Most people misdiagnose themselves with indigestion and when a doctor mentions angina they are left asking themselves what is angina? Thorough research and information obtained from your physician can give you a better understanding of your symptoms that lead up to angina.

If you are experiencing a compressing chest pain ask yourself what is angina and are my symptoms similar to that of this condition. If they are, it is wise to seek medical attention right away, especially if the pain continues to occur or worsen during rest and relaxation. Your doctor can prescribe medication that is able to curb the painful symptoms and prevent them from hindering your life.
