A common question asked of doctors is can you take too much vitamin C? Vitamin C is the most common antioxidant taken by people but mega doses can be harmful. Too much vitamin C can cause nausea, diarrhea, and kidney stones. The human body absorbs the amount of C it needs and the rest ends up in the body’s urine. It is pretty difficult to take too much vitamin C.

One of the antioxidant and disease fighting properties that vitamin C and food sources of vitamin C have is the ability to fight against symptoms of HPV. The HPV virus is the widest spread sexually transmitted disease that causes warts and some forms of cancer such as anal, cervical, and penile. Taking a multivitamin with vitamin C in it also resulted in lower infections rates.

There are currently two HPV vaccines: Gardasil and Cervarix which have lead many people to ask which HPV vaccine to use: Gardasil or Cervarix? Cervarix vaccinates against 2 types of HPV while Gardasil vaccinates against 4 types, but the Gardasil controversy caused by the serious side effects has people switching to Cervarix. The Gardasil controversy stems from a reported 32 deaths that stem from the vaccine. Other serious side effects reported are seizures, blood clots, and fainting.

Even if you don’t know which vaccine to use: Gardasil or Cervarix, taking a vitamin C supplement, eating foods that are sources of vitamin C, and taking a multivitamin tablet can help ward off persistent infections of HPV. So if you’re one of the millions of people out there trying to decide which HPV vaccine to use: Gardasil or Cervarix, it is also helpful to take vitamin C to lower infection rates.

Sometimes eating a healthy, well-rounded diet isn’t always enough to provide all the nutrients a woman’s body needs every day. A women’s multivitamin tablet fills these gaps, making sure that your body gets what it needs to stay healthy. However, it can be confusing to know what to look for in a womens multivitamin. Read on for some important guidelines.

If you are still menstruating, your body likely needs more iron. Also, since women are more prone to osteoporosis than men, a woman’s multivitamin often includes extra calcium. Postmenopausal women need less iron and vitamin K, but more B12 and vitamin D. If you’re pregnant or nursing, you’ll want extra folic acid, iron, and calcium in your tablet.

Other than these special cases, what to look for in a womens multivitamin is much the same as a regular multivitamin. You want a variety of water and fat-soluble vitamins – vitamin C, A, D, K, E, and the B group — as well as minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, and zinc. Many multivitamins now include antioxidants, too.

Make sure the multivitamin tablet bottle you choose won’t expire before you’ll use them all, and check the daily value (DV) percentages, as more is not always better and can actually be harmful to have over 100 percent DV of any vitamin or mineral. Also, check the label for any allergens. You don’t want to have an allergic reaction to traces of wheat in your multivitamin. Finally, look for the Unites States Pharmacopeia (USP) seal, which assures you that the supplement has been tested and actually contains the amounts of vitamins and minerals listed. These are some of the things you want to consider when thinking about what to look for in a multivitamin.

Though the best way to get the vitamins and minerals you need is by eating a healthy, well-rounded diet, it can sometimes be hard to fit in the optimum amount of nutrients. This is where a multivitamin tablet comes in. It fills in the gaps and ensures you receive the vitamins and minerals your body needs for peak performance.

Here’s an idea of what to look for in a multivitamin. The exact composition will vary depending on whether you need one tailored to male or female nutritional requirements, as well as your stage of life (prenatal, youth, menopause, seniors, etc.). Most will contain water-soluble vitamins such as vitamin C and the B vitamins; fat-soluble ones including A, D, K, and a vitamin E supplement, and minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, and more. Some may also include antioxidants.

For women of childbearing age, what to look for in a multivitamin may include extra iron and calcium. If you’re an older adult, look for a formula with less iron and vitamin K and more B12 and vitamin D. Multivitamins designed for pregnant and nursing women pack in extra folic acid, iron, and calcium.

Finally, here are some specifics on what to look for in a multivitamin of any sort. Choose one with a good variety, and double-check the expiration date. If you have allergies, make sure it doesn’t include any allergens (egg, wheat, etc.). Don’t get one that has more than 100 percent daily value of any vitamin or mineral. So, a good multivitamin tablet might contian vitamin c or a good vitamin e supplement. And always remember that more is not always better!

Certain medications will deplete your vitamin B6 supply. Pyridoxine tablets or pyridoxine vitamins may be in order if that is the case

The processing of pyridoxine is complex as it supports our metabolism behind the scenes of several other funcrtions

Pyridoxine vitamin, or Vitamin B6, is essential as an amino acid absorption supplement. The pyridoxine vitamin, vitamin B6, is also essential for metabolism, transport, and the growth and formation of red blood cells. It controls the utilization of several substances needed by the nervous systems. Nervousness, weakness, and irritability are all signs of a vitamin B6 deficiency.

Vitamin B6 is a component of coenzyme PLP which metabolizes amino acids. Since it has the ability to transfer the amino acid, the body will then create nonessential amino acids from the amino groups and metabolize protein and urea. Pyridoxine participates in over 100 enzyme reactions which includes protein metabolism. Both the nervous system and the immune system need vitamin B6 to properly function. Vitamin B6, pyridoxine, will also assist in maintaining blood glucose in a normal range. If calorie intake is low, the body will need vitamin B6 to convert the stored carbohydrates or other nutrients into glucose to maintain sugar levels at a normal range. The thymus, spleen and lymph nodes which make our white blood cells are also maintained by vitamin B6.

The main function of vitamin B6 is its involvement with over 100 enzymatic reactions. The function of B6 is far reached and diverse. Almost every molecule depends on B6 for their production. Foods high in vitamin B6 will give support to the nervous system. The breakdown of sugar and starches will be promoted. Homocysteine will be prevented from build-up in the blood. If your body is in need of vitamin B6 foods, or pyridoxine tablets, you will feel fatigued. You may also suffer from anemia or skin disorders which would include eczema and seborrheic dermatitis.

Another key function of vitamin B6 is its effect on the nervous system. When severely deficient of B6, nerve related symptoms like convulsions and seizures may occur. Vitamin B6 is critical to the forming of red blood cells. With deficiency, symptoms of anemia, fatigue, and malaise may be suffered. Certain medications will cause a depletion of vitamin B6. Also, excessive alcohol use will lower vitamin B6 levels. Pyridoxine tablets should be considered if medication depleted vitamin B6 is in need of supplementation.

Just as there are deficiencies with pyridoxine, there may also be occurrences of toxicity from too much of the vitamin B6. The use of high amounts of pyridoxine has some risks for certain individuals. Adults may suffer from progressive sensory neuropathy or degeneration of dorsal root ganglia.

There are several types of foods which have some source of vitamin B6. Great sources of vitamin B6 are 100 percent fortified cereals, bell peppers, turnip greens and spinach. Other sources include garlic, tuna, cauliflower, banana, celery, cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cod, mustard greens,

Although the process is more complex, vitamin B6 will help with metabolism. Pyridoxine is, vitamin B6, is more or less, working behind the scenes, however. It cannot be stated that vitamin B6 speeds up metabolism with a welcomed side effect of weight loss. This vitamin is important as a co-factor for pertinent enzymatic reactions in metabolism. Vitamin B6 is found in many foods and can be taken as pyridoxine tablet or vitamin supplements.

Some studies suggest Sudden Infant Death Syndrome may also be caused by insufficient levels of this vitamin

The role of thiamin, otherwise known as vitamin B1 in carbohydrate metabolism has long been established. That vitamin B1 plays a critical role in the metabolism of energy is widely recognized in research circles. It is a water soluble vitamin and passes through the body daily thus necessitating daily intakes. The presence of vitamin B1 enables the body to utilize carbohydrates for energy and it is also useful in metabolizing amino acids. Scientific studies have shown that a vitamin B1 deficiency causes a corresponding decline in the absorption rate of glucose in the alimentary canal. The following discussion focuses on the uses of vitamin B1 and health disorders caused by a deficiency of the same.

Uses of Vitamin B1

Vitamin B1 serves various purposes in the body. Healthy functioning of the body cells is greatly enabled by vitamin B1 which is also fundamental in the proper functioning of nerves and the nervous system. Normal growth and development rests much upon adequate supplies of the vitamin in the body. In the digestive tract, vitamin B1 is instrumental in toning of intestinal muscles. The heart also derives much benefit in maintaining its muscle structure from a rich supply of the vitamin and it improves the flow of blood in the arteries. The presence of vitamin B1 in the body boosts anti oxidation and protects the body from the detrimental effects of toxic substances sometimes introduced through harmful habits such as smoking, overconsumption of alcohol and irresponsible drug usage.

Vitamin B1 occurs richly in lentils, beans, whole grains, wheat germ, lean meats, liver, heart, kidneys, eggs, poultry and fish.

Health Disorders Caused by Vitamin B1 Deficiency

Insufficient supply of vitamin B1 can cause poor appetite, resulting in disruption of digestion, constipation and weight loss. As thiamin has been established to play a key role in nervous health, its inadequacy can create fatigue of the nervous system, depression and insomnia. The health of the heart is also affected by an inadequate supply of vitamin B1 causing the muscles to become lethargic which can result in enlargement of parts of the heart, in itself a grave risk to health.

Alcoholics are typically afflicted by inadequate vitamin B1 as the overconsumption of alcohol interferes with the absorption of vitamin B1 by the body. Besides, alcohol damages the small intestine which reduces the absorption of nutrients.

Vitamin B1 deficiency has been a major problem in developing countries where it causes beriberi. Beriberi is classified into “wet” and “dry”. “Wet” occurs when people with vitamin B1 deficiency over-exert themselves with excessive amounts of carbohydrates. Cardiovascular health is affected which results in breathing difficulties, irregular heartbeats and even heart failure. “Dry” beriberi occurs in those who do not get adequate calories and are not active. This affects nervous health and cognitive processes including learning.

It has been suggested that sudden infant death (SID) may be caused by beriberi. Infantile beriberi may occur when mothers lacking in vitamin B1 breastfeed their babies. Sudden heart failure may arise.

Correcting thiamin deficiency would largely revolve around dietary management. Where intake from food is insufficient, nutritional supplements can be used so that carbohydrate metabolism is enabled unhindered. It should be noted that vitamin B1 can be lost during food preparation if food is subject to overcooking or extreme heat processing. Lifestyle management is also advisable such that detrimental practices like overconsumption of alcohol are kept away.

As you age, diseases and cell damage can occur because of substances called free radicals, which your body generates as by products during normal functions. Vitamin E is one of the vitamins that is an antioxidant, and these vitamins will prevent the reactions caused by free radicals in your body that leads to diseases like cancer and other cellular problems. Populations which consume a diet that is high in sources of vitamin E suffer many fewer health risks, including the risks of a heart attack or other heart problems, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and many other medical conditions.

Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin, which means that your body can store this vitamin and it is not eliminated with water from your system. This vitamin has been proven to help prevent cardiac disease and prevent plaque build up in your arteries. Vitamin E is needed to protect essential fatty acids and the vitamin A in your body and cells. Without enough vitamin E, the other nutrients would receive oxidation damage and start to breakdown.

Scientific studies on the benefits of taking a vitamin E supplement have shown that both sexes, men and women alike, have a roughly forty percent lower risk of myocardial infarction and cardiac disease. This is almost half of the heart attack risk of those who do not get enough vitamin E in their diet, either through natural foods or by taking a vitamin E supplement. The bes way to gt enough vitamin E is to eat a diet rich in foods that contain this vitamin, but that may not always be possible. In this case, a supplement can help you stay heart healthy as well. The RDA is ten milligrams per day for men and women both, and it is important to remember that this is the minimum amount needed, and your diet should include more than this. One hundred IU is an amount that can help prevent heart disease and problems when taken daily for most people, and a daily amount of eight hundred International Units, or even twelve hundred, is not unheard of in patients who have signs and symptoms of cardiac disease.

Taking vitamin E supplements can help you make sure you get enough of this vitamin in your diet, but there are some things you should look for in a supplement. Steer away from these supplements which only contain alpha-tocopherol, and instead look for supplements which contain other components in the family of compounds that are vitamin E in addition to alpha-tocopherol. Some of the other compounds can help fight certain types of cancer, and you want to use the supplement which offers the most health benefits.

Heart health is important, especially as you age. The older you are the higher your risks of cardiac disease and heart attacks may become. Taking a daily vitamin E supplement can lower your heart risks and help keep the rest of your body healthy as well. This vitamin prevents cell damage and oxidation, so your cells stay healthy and efficient instead of becoming damaged and dying off. Eating a diet that has a wide variety of foods, and plenty of fruits and vegetables, can provide a lot of the vitamin E that you need, and adding a vitamin E supplement to your morning meal each day can provide any extra that you may be missing in your diet.

The vitamin absorption abilities of your body are amazing when working properly, but it is important to understand that there are some vitamins which rely on other vitamins or minerals for optimum absorption into your body, and the best bioavailability to your cells and processes. Vitamins, just like minerals, are needed to provide nutrients, and they play an important part in every process that your body performs each and every day. Vitamins come in two types, water soluble and fat soluble, and a deficiency of water soluble vitamins such as a vitamin C deficiency from your diet can have serious health effects.

Water soluble vitamins are vitamins which need water in your system to go through the vitamin absorption process. Without water your body can not absorb these vitamins at all, and they will just pass through you. It is almost impossible to take too much of this vitamin type, because these vitamins are flushed out of your system every day, and must be replaced daily in your diet. This is why many foods are fortified with water soluble vitamins, to ensure you get the recommended amount daily of these nutrients. Water soluble vitamins include B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12, and C. These vitamins require water to dissolve in, so it is important that you drink enough water every day to ensure the best absorption of these vitamins.

Fat soluble vitamins are the other vitamin type. These vitamins differ from water soluble vitamins because they require fat in the body for vitamin absorption. These vitamins are not excreted every day, but instead are stored in the fat cells of your body until needed. This allows you to go a day or two without eating these vitamins as long as you have enough of them stored in your fat cells to meet the needs of your body. You must include some forms of healthy fats in your diet so that vitamin absorption will occur with fat soluble vitamins. These vitamins are A, D, E, and K.

Vitamin absorption can depend on other factors as well, because some vitamins or minerals can affect others adversely. A vitamin C overdose can affect copper levels in your blood and impair the absorption of this mineral. Vitamin D is essential for optimum calcium absorption, so that you have strong bones and teeth. Taking too much of any vitamin, regardless of the type, is not a good idea. Even water soluble vitamins that are excreted daily can build up if a large dose is taken at once, or even throughout the day. Fat soluble vitamins can have serious health consequences if taken in very large doses, because they store up in your liver and body fat. This can cause your liver to become damaged and cause a variety of other medical problems, depending on the specific vitamin taken. Vitamins act together, and too little or too much of one can cause problems with your body absorbing others.

Many people take a multivitamin and mineral supplement every day, to ensure that they get enough of all the vitamins they need. This may be a good idea if you eat an inadequate diet, but the best and most nutritious way to get all the vitamins you need is to eat a healthy balanced diet with a wide variety of foods in every color of the rainbow. This will maximize your vitamin absorption and prevent any vitamin shortages, such as a vitamin C deficiency. Having all the vitamins your body needs for the best function and health is important, and a balanced diet and plenty of fluids, with some heart healthy fats thrown in, will ensure that your body can absorb all the nutrients from the foods that you eat each day.

Vitamins are critical to so many bodily functions, and are therefore very important for overall health and well being. The best sources of vitamins are natural sources ingested in your daily diet, particularly from fresh fruit and vegetables. However, a multivitamin tablet is a good insurance policy to make sure you are getting the correct amount of these important nutrients every day. A multivitamin will usually contain the recommended daily dose of each vitamin, so a separate supplement, for example, for vitamin A or vitamin B complex should not be necessary.

What is the best combination of vitamins for your body? Here are some of the basic vitamins you should look for in a good multivitamin tablet.

Vitamin A is very important for sight and a healthy immune function. A deficiency in vitamin A can cause a condition known as night blindness. It also helps to keep your skin and bones healthy.

Vitamin B complex:

A multi vitamin should contain the 11 different B vitamins. Vitamin B complex plays an important role in the functioning of the nervous system and may be taken as vitamin treatment for medication overuse or alcoholism. It may also be used as treatment for recovering from a serious illness. Vitamin B complex helps to lessen the effects of stress. It helps in the process of metabolizing fats, carbohydrates and proteins and it is also crucial to the health of your hair, skin, mouth eyes and liver. It also assists in the function of the adrenal gland.

Vitamin B-3 or niacin is important to the nervous system, skin, and the process of digestion.

Vitamin B-6 is used to as a vitamin treatment for a number of conditions including joint pain, eyes that are sensitive to bright light and tingling or burning in the extremities. Vitamin B6 works with magnesium and zinc.

Vitamin B-12 is used in the blood to convert iron to hemoglobin. It also assists with the production of hormones and can improve the short-term memory of the elderly. Vitamin B-12 also helps the health of the nervous system.
Folic acid is an important nutrient which assists with heart health. In particular, pregnant women should take a sufficient amount of folic acid in order to minimize the risk of birth defects.

Vitamin C is well known as a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants can help prevent cellular damage caused by frees radicals, and may therefore prevent a number of different forms of cancer. Vitamin C is also important to healthy immune function, and can help the body to fight viruses or infections such as cold and flu.

Vitamin D helps to keep your bones healthy mainly because it assists in the absorption of calcium. It can also decrease the risk of cardiac failure, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and some forms of cancer.

Vitamin E also acts as an antioxidant and assists with immune function. Vitamin E may also decrease the risk of contracting prostate cancer.

If you have any health problems, or are in any doubt over the best vitamins for you, consult your doctor for specific advice that is personal to you. Otherwise, a multivitamin can be an important boost for overall health if it contains the correct nutrients in the right dosages. Do some research before you buy to get the best vitamins for the body.

Many people wonder what the difference between a fat soluble vitamin and a water soluble vitamin is, and what the implications are for their nutrition. There is a big difference between these two types of vitamins, and how they are broken down and used by your body. Understanding both vitamin types will help you optimize your nutrition, so that your body has all the building blocks needed to stay fit and healthy. Part of the difference between these body types is apparent, because one dissolves in lipids, or fats, and the other dissolves in water, and this has an effect on how well your body can use the vitamin to meet your physical needs. If you do not have enough fat in your diet than vitamins which are fat soluble can not be utilized, and the same is true of vitamins that are water soluble if there is not an adequate amount of water in your diet.

The fat soluble vitamins are vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K. They may also go by the name lipid soluble vitamins instead. These vitamins are stored in your body and are dissolved in the stored fat in your body, and are released when fat is broken down to access the vitamins or for other nutritional or energy needs. These vitamins are absorbed in your intestines, and are structurally related. Without these four vitamins, your body could not perform the critical job of repairing daily damage or help your organs function efficiently. Because they are stored in the fat, these vitamins can build up. Fish liver oil and essential omega 3 fatty acids are very rich in both vitamin D and vitamin A, and these vitamins can be stored in your liver until it is needed by your body. These vitamins do not have to be consumed every single day because they can be stored until needed in your body.

There are a number of different water soluble vitamins, and these are all eight B vitamins and the sunshine vitamin, vitamin C. These are the vitamins which are not stored in your body, and because of this you must eat these vitamins every single day to ensure your body has all the nutrients required for proper maintenance and function. Because these vitamins dissolve in water and are excreted through your urine every day, it is impossible to overdose or be in any danger from a buildup in your body. This is also why you need to consume them daily. Your intestine will absorb these vitamins and they are then sent directly into your bloodstream, where they are used or excreted. The eight B vitamins are B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, and B12.

Taking a high quality multivitamin every day can ensure that your body gets enough of every water soluble vitamin needed, without having to worry about your diet alone not being enough. Eating a diet that is balanced and nutritious and contains adequate amounts of beneficial oils and fats will ensure that your body can use fat soluble vitamins efficiently and effectively. Many foods are fortified to help meet nutritional needs, and eating a wide variety of foods from all the food groups and taking a multivitamin each morning will make sure you get enough of both vitamin types. This will help you guarantee that you have everything you need to stay fit and healthy. Not having enough of either vitamin type can cause health problems, so make sure your diet is rich in nutrients and a variety of vitamins and phytochemicals. You should also make sure you have enough good fats in your diet and you drink plenty of water. This will let your body use the vitamins present very efficiently and get the most from them.

A supplement that consists of all eight B vitamins is usually known as a vitamin B complex. The B vitamin group comprises of eight water-soluble vitamins. They play vital roles in a number of body systems and functions, including cell metabolism.

B vitamins were historically thought to be a single vitamin called vitamin B. Later studies showed that B vitamins are chemically distinct compounds that may coexist in the same foods. Individual B vitamins are referred to by the distinct name of each vitamin (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, and B12).

B vitamins are nutrients that are essential for development, growth, and a wide range of bodily functions. They play an important role in the functions of enzymes that regulate bodily chemical reactions. They are particularly important in the process of turning food into energy and deriving other nutrients from it. B vitamins can be found in a number of animal and plant sources.

Some of the functions of the vitamins in vitamins B complex include:

    * Vitamin B1 (thiamin) and vitamin B2 (riboflavin) assist the body in producing energy. They affect enzymes that regulate muscles tissue, nerves, and the heart.
* Vitamin B3 (niacin) also has a role in producing energy at the cellular level. It helps to maintain healthy skin, digestive system and nervous system.
* Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) has an important role to play in growth and development.
* Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) assists the body in breaking down protein. It also helps with the health of red blood cells, parts of the immune system and the nervous system.
* Vitamin B7 (biotin) assists with the breakdown of carbohydrate and protein. It also helps the body to produce hormones.
* Vitamin B9 (folic acid) assists cells within the body to make and maintain DNA. It is also critical to the formation of red blood cells.
* Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) also plays an important role in bodily development and growth. It plays a part in the production of blood cells, and assists in the functioning of the nervous system. It also helps to regulate how the body utilizes carbohydrates and folic acid.

A deficiency in B vitamins can cause conditions such as anemia, depression, respiratory infections and eczema and can cause symptoms such as loss of appetite, tiredness, abdominal pain, numbness and tingling in the arms and legs, muscle cramps and hair loss. It may also lead to birth defects (if the deficiency is in the pregnant mother) and poor growth in children.

Women who are pregnant or who are breast-feeding require more vitamin B9 (folic acid) than others. All women who are of childbearing age are recommended to increase their ingestion of folic acid in order to help prevent birth defects.

Studies have also found that deficiencies in B vitamins may weaken immune function, and may also leave the body vulnerable to cancer. High doses of B vitamins are often prescribed as treatments for people suffering from cancer.

Sources of vitamin B2 include enriched bread, liver, dairy products and leafy green vegetables (e.g. kale). Vitamin B3 can be found in fish, liver, red meat, chicken, whole grains, dried beans and nuts. Vitamin B5 can be found in almost every type of food. Vitamin B6 can be found in liver, fish, pork, chicken, potatoes, bananas, wheat germ, and dried beans. Vitamin B7 is produced by bacteria in the intestine and can also be found in liver, peanuts, egg yolks, mushrooms, bananas, watermelon, and grapefruit.
