Blood stem cell storage has two sides, and there is a big stem cell research controversy about using embryonic stem cells for research. Some parents may choose to have these cells from the umbilical cord of their newborn child saved and stored, in a process known as cord blood stem cell banking, and this is done in case the child ever needs stem cells at a future date because of an illness or medical condition. Blood stem cell storage is not a complex process, and even though who are on the against side of the stem cell research controversy do not believe it is wrong for parents to practice cord blood stem cell banking, because no embryos are destroyed to gain these cells.

Blood stem cell storage begins with the cord blood being collected. Once your child is born and the cord has been clamped off and cut, the collection bag needle is inserted into the umbilical cord while it is still attached to the mother, but there is no pain with the process. Around two cups of the blood from the cord is taken. Once the sample is collected it is shipped to the lab using FedEx or another courier service. The blood can not be refrigerated and must stay at room temperature. The next step with blood stem cell storage is actually storing the blood after it reaches the lab. The blood is preserved in a method that does not harm or degrade it, and then the blood is cryogenically preserved. It is the stored in locked rooms with special tanks, at a very low temperature of close to minus two hundred degrees.

Although high blood pressure is known as a “silent killer”, awareness of the condition is improving and hypertension has become one of the most common reasons that people visit their doctors.

High blood pressure is a common symptom and/or cause in the following vascular conditions, which can result in chronic vascular disease: Buerger’s Disease and Peripheral Artery Disease

Put simply, the heart is a powerful muscle that pumps blood to all areas and extremities of your body, all day, every day. The heart pushes blood out into the arteries which supply other blood vessels and capillaries which in turn supply all the organs and tissues in our bodies before the blood is returned to the heart through veins. When the heart beats, blood flows under pressure through the arteries and this creates pressure on the artery walls, and it is that force that is known as blood pressure. High blood pressure is also known as hypertension.

High blood pressure may not cause any outward symptoms or ill effects, but it can cause some serious consequences in the medium and long term. It is very common for people to have high blood pressure and for them to know nothing about it. Well known consequences of high blood pressure include vascular disease, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and congestive heart failure. Although high blood pressure is known as a “silent killer”, awareness of the condition is improving and hypertension has become one of the most common reasons that people visit their doctors.

When the heart beats, it pushes your circulatory system (or the vascular system). Blood vessels are effective tubes that carry the blood way from the heart (arteries) and then return it (veins). Vascular Disease is a broad term that covers any condition or disease that affects your vascular or circulatory system, for example, peripheral artery disease. This ranges from conditions affecting your veins, arteries, and lymph vessels to other disorders affecting circulation.

High blood pressure can be a cause and a symptom of vascular disease. Many deaths that result from stroke, kidney failure and heart attack can be attributed (among other factors) to high blood pressure. High blood pressure is a common symptom and/or cause in the following vascular conditions, which can result in chronic vascular disease:

1. PAD (Peripheral Artery Disease, also known as peripheral vascular disease): As with the coronary arteries, peripheral arteries, i.e. arteries outside the heart, or not involved in blood supply to the heart, may develop a buildup of plaque on the arterial walls. This condition is known as atherosclerosis, and can cause high blood pressure as the area that blood can move through narrows. This narrowing can then lead to ischemia which is the inadequate flow of blood flow to body tissues. An example would be a blockage in the renal arteries, causing stenosis (renal artery disease). Symptoms of peripheral occlusive vascular disease include high blood pressure, poor kidney function and congestive heart failure.

2. Buerger’s Disease: This condition most commonly affects smaller and medium sized veins, arteries and nerves. It is also common in patients with a history of high blood pressure. The condition is strongly associated with smoking or exposure to tobacco smoke. Arteries can become narrowed or blocked in the arms and legs and this causes a shortage of blood supply, known as ischemia to the hands, feet, fingers and toes. This can cause pain in the hands and arms, and more commonly in the feet and legs. Where blockages are severe, gangrene may result and tissues may actually die, requiring amputation.

There are a number of conditions and disease that can result from high blood presuure. Here are a few of them:

Arterial Damage

Healthy arteries are strong, elastic and flexible. The inner lining of an artery should be smooth so that your blood flows through it freely on its way to supplying tissue and organs with oxygen and other nutrients. If there is high blood pressure in the arteries, it can cause many problems including:

1. Atherosclerosis and arteriosclerosis. Excessive pressure in the arteries can cause the cells of the inner lining to alter. The effect will ultimately cause the artery walls to become thicker and stiffer. This condition is known as hardening of the arteries, or arteriosclerosis, and can be caused by high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Fats that pass through cells begin to accumulate and begins the development of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis can affect arteries throughout the body, and can obstruct blood flow to the heart, brain, kidneys, and extremities. The damage caused by atherosclerosis can cause chest pain (known as angina), kidney failure, heart attack, aneurysms and stroke.

2. Aneurysm. If blood pressure is high over a period of time, a weakened artery may become damaged. High blood pressure can cause a section of an arterial wall to enlarge, forming a bulge, or aneurysm. An aneurysm may rupture, causing internal bleeding which may be life threatening. Aneurysms may develop in any artery, although they are most often found in the aorta, which is the body’s biggest artery.

Damage to your heart

Put simply, the heart pumps blood containing oxygen and nutrients to your entire body. High blood pressure can cause damage to the heart in a number of ways, including:

1. CAD (Coronary artery disease). CAD encompasses a number of diseases involving the arteries responsible for the supply of blood to the heart muscle. High blood pressure can cause the cells lining these arteries to alter, and this may reduce the ability of those arteries to dilate. This in turn can cause angina (chest pain). CAD may also occur when blood flow becomes obstructed, often because of atherosclerosis. This can result in chest pain or irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias).

2. Enlarged left heart. High blood pressure can force the heart to overexert itself as it works harder to push blood around the body. This in turn can cause left ventricular hypertrophy i.e. the left ventricle enlarges through muscular development (just as your muscles get bigger from lifting weights). This enlargement can limit the left ventricle’s ability to expand properly meaning that it cannot completely fill with blood. This then leads to the heart pumping out less blood to the body. An enlarged left heart increases the risk of heart failure and heart attack.

3. Heart failure. Over an extended period, the additional exertion forced upon the heart by high blood pressure may cause the heart muscle to work less efficiently and weaken. The result is that the heart becomes overwhelmed, and it can wear out and fail. Damage caused by heart attacks can exacerbate this problem.

As well as arterial and heart conditions, high blood pressure can be responsible for a large variety of other conditions including stroke, dementia, kidney damage and problems with eye sight. High blood pressure is treatable, and high blood pressure remedies are available. Medication, diet and lifestyle changes can all help, so if you have any doubts about your health, or the effects that high blood pressure might be having upon you, consult your doctor.

Other, more serious reasons for a burst blood vessel in the eye is high blood pressure, constipation and excessive strain, blunt force trauma and excessive sneezing or coughing.

You can take the necessary steps to prevent this unattractive incident.

Products like Blood Circulation Formula (BPE), Hawthorn Heart Syrup and Garlic are all herbal supplements that can help lower your blood pressure.

So your blood vessel burst in your eye. Don’t worry! It’ll go away within a few weeks and it’s probably just a cosmetic problem. Burst blood vessels are caused by factors like stress and high blood pressure. Also, blunt trauma and excessive sneezing and coughing can cause a blood vessel to burst in your eye.

The result is an unfortunate looking eye but rest assured that it will go away quickly. Remember to stay calm about it because excessive stress could make it worse and last longer.

If you’re a repeat offender, you may want to look into the reasons that burst eye blood vessels happen. For the most part, they’re nothing but they can be signs of a more serious medical condition. If this is your first time with a burst blood vessel in your eye, you too could have one of these medical conditions.

Has your doctor ever told you that you have high blood pressure? This is the leading cause behind burst blood vessels and can cause even more serious ramifications. If you are struggling with high blood pressure, the best thing to do, along with eating a heart-healthy diet and exercising, is to incorporate some natural supplements. Products like Blood Circulation Formula (BPE), Hawthorn Heart Syrup and Garlic are all herbal supplements that can help lower your blood pressure.

If you know that your burst blood vessel isn’t from high blood pressure, there are a few more ways you could have developed it. If you struggle with constipation or excessive strain you put yourself at a higher risk. These can be solved naturally by taking oral Cascara Sagrada supplements. You won’t have to worry about constipation and strain again after taking some Cascada Sagrada. This affordable supplement works really well and can help you kill two birds with one stone.

Some other causes are blunt force trauma and coughing or sneezing too hard. While, yes, some of these cannot be controlled, you really can keep yourself from developing a burst blood vessel in your eye. If you follow a daily exercise regiment, eat a heart healthy diet and add natural supplements like Cascara Sagrada, Nerve Formula B&B Glycerite and Blood Pressure Tea into your diet you will be on the right track to an overall healthy life.

Hypertensive retinopathy is a condition where the retina of the eye can be damaged by high blood pressure (hypertension).

Causes and risk factors

Damage is caused to blood vessels within the eyes by high blood pressure. More severe damage is caused as blood pressure increases, or if high blood pressure is a prolonged condition. Signs and symptoms of hypertensive retinopathy can be difficult to detect, although your doctor will be able to use an ophthalmoscope to see whether there is a narrowing of the blood vessels in the eyes, or if the blood vessels are oozing any excess fluid.

A patient with hypertensive retinopathy may not even know that he or she has high blood pressure. In that case, an eye exam may display the first sign of this condition which can be difficult to detect in the early stages. It is most common that hypertensive retinopathy occurs in patients who are middle aged or older. Also, high blood pressure or hypertension is more common among African-Americans than Caucasians. Patients with hypertensive retinopathy in the early stages usually do not display outward signs of the condition, and may not suffer any obvious symptoms.

An ophthalmic examination may reveal flame shaped hemorrhages and cotton wool spots. In rare cases there may be macular or retinal edema (an accumulation of fluid). In more serious cases, there may be a macular star and disc edema. Arteriolosclerosis is often found concurrently.

Hypertensive retinopathy stages graded according to seriousness on a scale of I to IV.

At grade I, hypertensive retinopathy may not display any symptoms, but at grade IV the condition may cause swelling of the optic nerve. It may and may also cause swelling of the visual center of the retina (known as the macula). This swelling can have an adverse effect on the patient’s vision.

Other symptoms of hypertensive retinopathy include visual disturbances and headaches. In the initial stages hypertensive retinopathy can be difficult to detect, although regular testing for signs and syptoms would reveal the condition, either by fluorescein angiography or opthalmoscopic examination. Prolonged high blood pressure may also indicate the condition.

Hypertensive retinopathy is treated by controlling and reducing high blood pressure. This is the only treatment available.

Prognosis

Patients who have severe hypertensive retinopathy (grade IV) may also suffer from kidney and heart complications due to persistent and prolonged hypertension. The retina will usually recover if hypertension is controlled. However, hypertensive retinopathy can cause permanent damage to the optic nerve or macula, particularly if it reaches grade IV.

The complications that are associated with hypertensive retinopathy are generally those that are associated with high blood pressure. However, hypertensive retinopathy may also cause vision problems due to irreversible damage to the macula or optic nerve.

If you have headaches, vision changes or high blood pressure, you should see a doctor or health care professional immediately.

With high blood pressure a likely culprit for hypertensive retinopathy, try Cardio Smart, an all-natural dietary supplement proven to help lower blood pressure levels and restore healthy blood flow.

In a minority of patients (approximately 10%) with high blood pressure (also known as hypertension), the condition is the result of another disease. This is known as secondary hypertension. If the causal disease is treated, blood pressure will usually go back to normal levels. The following conditions can cause secondary hypertension: tumors , diseases of the adrenal gland, pregnancy, alcohol addiction, thyroid dysfunction, chronic kidney disease, use of birth control pills, and coarctation of the aorta (this is a condition that causes the aorta to narrow. Some patients are born with this condition that causes high blood pressure in the arms).

In the majority of cases (approximately 90%), the reason for high blood pressure is not another disease or condition. This is known as primary hypertension. Although a specific cause might be unknown, there are certain contributing factors which are known to cause high blood pressure.

Uncontrollable Factors

1.	Age: As you get older, there is a greater likelihood that you get hypertension. This is due to a condition known as hardening of the arteries or arteriosclerosis.

2.	Race: For example, African Americans tend to suffer from hypertension more than white people.

3.	Heredity: A tendency toward high blood maybe inherited.

4.	Gender: Men are more likely to develop hypertension than women (according to age).

Alterable Factors

1.	Body weight: Obesity is closely associated with high blood pressure. A person is defined as obese if they have a BMI (body mass index) of more than 30 kg/m2. Generally, doctors recommend that obese people who suffer from hypertension should lose weight. Your doctor will be able to analyze your BMI and what a healthy body weight would be.

2.	Salt sensitivity: Some people are highly sensitive to salt (sodium) in that and their blood pressure will rise if they use it. Reducing the ingestion of sodium tends to lower the blood pressure of someone who is salt sensitive. Foods that are highly processed tend to contain high amounts of salt. Some painkillers and some other over the counter medications also tend to contain large amounts of salt. Read the labels and try to avoid high sodium foodstuffs and medications.

3.	Alcohol: If you drink more than one to two alcoholic drinks per day, you may be at risk of raising your blood pressure. This is particularly the case for those who are sensitive to alcohol.

4.	Birth control pills: Some women who take oral contraceptives may develop high blood pressure.

5.	Lack of physical activity: A sedentary lifestyle is becoming more common and may contribute to the obesity and the development of high blood pressure.

6.	Drugs use and abuse: Certain drugs, such as diet pills, amphetamines (stimulants), and some pills used for allergy and cold symptoms may cause blood pressure to rise.

The most common correlation is that blood pressure rises as body weight increases. People who are obese or even overweight are more likely to develop hypertension than those whose weight is in a healthy range.

Your doctor will be able to discuss what normal blood pressure values are for you and how to control high blood pressure. This should include medication (if necessary) as well as methods of natural blood pressure control such as Cardio Smart.

Women naturally have an advantage over men when it comes to keeping their blood pressure down. A woman’s body produces the hormone estrogen and during her reproductive years estrogen helps protect a woman’s body from developing high blood pressure. Estrogen helps keep the blood vessels in a woman’s body flexible and it modulates other hormone activities in the body that cause high blood pressure. Unfortunately that advantage does not last and as a woman enters menopause – when the female body leaves the reproductive years – estrogen production decreases and women are prone to high blood pressure levels.

High blood pressure levels in a woman over the age of fifty increases about 5 millimeters of mercury on the systolic pressure reading, showing that there is a direct correlation between menopause and high blood pressure. High blood pressure levels, when left untreated, can cause strokes, heart attacks, dementia, heart failure and kidney failure. High blood pressure levels cause the walls of the arteries to harden and when this happens the flow of blood decreases.

Menopause and high blood pressure also go hand in hand thanks to the reduction of the amount of estrogen a woman’s body produces. Without adequate amounts of estrogen in a woman’s body, the arteries start to lose their flexibility and there is nothing to regulate other hormone activity. A study done between 2001 and 2003 of men and women over the age of 60 – an age where most women are well over their reproductive years – showed that women in menopause have higher blood pressure levels than their male counterparts.

High blood pressure prevention should be included in every person’s lifestyle regime even if you are not at risk. There are many natural ways to lower high blood pressure and they do include making lifestyle changes. Additionally high blood pressure prevention can never be started too late. It is one of those conditions where taking action can help the body bounce back. Natural ways to lower high blood pressure include: exercising regularly so that the heart grows stronger; eat a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low fat or fat free dairy products while limiting red meats, sweets, and processed foods; reduce the amount of salt in your diet; limit alcohol intake to a single drink a day if at all; maintain a healthy weight for your body; and stop smoking if you are a smoker.

<img src="/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/menopause-and-high-blood-pressure2.jpg" alt="High Blood Pressure Levels" title="High Blood Pressure Levels" / >In addition to these natural ways to lower high blood pressure women who are dealing with menopause and high blood pressure may be required to take medication to help lower high blood pressure. This high blood pressure prevention method is more common than most people think and regular check-ups and visits to your physician will help you determine whether or not medication in addition to lifestyle changes will help reduce your blood pressure overall. Always check with your doctor before starting any diet or exercise routine in order to make sure you are fit enough to do it and that you are on the right diet for your high blood pressure condition.

Cardio Smart is just another all-natural option to help treat high blood pressure.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm which leads to a ruptured aortic aneurysm which in most cases is deadly is treatable if caught early enough. Abdominal arteries are those arteries that supply the body with blood from the heart. Aortic means below the chest and is the most common form of aneurism. An aneurism is a widening of the artery due to high blood sugar, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure. The biggest danger of an aorta aneurism is rupture. Aortic aneurism that leads to rupture is almost 90% fatal. A rupture occurs when the aneurism breaks open and send blood in to the body. It is essential that aneurism of the aorta is detected so your doctor can provide treatment immediately for your aneurysm abdominal aortic.

Unfortunately, the symptoms of aortic aneurysms are usually not experienced until it is too late. If the patient does have symptoms of aortic aneurism they are usually extreme pain in the abdomen or back. However, most cases of aortic aneurism do not give the patient any symptoms of aortic aneurism at all, or until its too late. Aorta aneurysm can be treated before rupture in a variety of ways. If the aneurism to relatively small, the condition can sometimes be reversed through diet and exercise.

It can not be exaggerated that the number one cause of aneurism of the aorta is poor diet. A diet without saturated fat, trans fat, and simple sugars is the best way to treat a variety of risk factors associated with heart disease, stroke, and aneurism of abdominal aortic. If you are diagnosed with an abdominal aneurysm aortic your doctor will prescribe a diet without these fats and sugars. He will also insist that you start to exercise regularly. Obesity is a big risk factor for aortic aneurism and can be changed with a little discipline and determination. Something as a walk in the park every day will help you lose those pounds and reduce the risk of an aorta aneurism.

Because the symptoms of abdominal aortic are not usually apparent it is important to change your lifestyle before it is too late. It is important that we all take a look at our daily lives and how we live them. If we take a proactive stance to our health while we are young we can greatly reduce our chance of major health problems later, including aortic aneurism.

High blood pressure is another cause of aortic aneurisms. High blood pressure can also be treated with exercise and diet. In addition there are several medications your doctor can prescribe that can help you lower your blood pressure. Regular blood pressure tests can also be an important way to keep your high blood pressure under control. Because aortic aneurisms are bulges in the aorta, when the bulge is bombarded with fast moving blood they are more likely to increase the size of an aneurism which in turn can lead to rupture, which is very dangerous, and in most cases fatal.

Common sense and early lifestyle changes can help prevent many diseases, especially aortic aneurysm.

What is an aneurysm? Many people have heard the term ‘aneurysm’ but are unsure exactly what it is. An aneurysm is an abnormal bulge that is located in the wall of an artery. If an aneurysm is allowed to become large enough, it will burst and cause dangerous and often times fatal bleeding in the body. Aortic aneurysms occur in the aorta. The aorta is the main artery which carries blood to the body from the heart. Abdominal aorta aneurysm occurs in the abdomen off of the aorta. No matter where the aneurysm occurs, if they are not caught in time, the person suffering from one can die. Close to 15,000 Americans each year die from them and they are the 10th most leading cause of death for men who are over the age of 50.

Unfortunately, the symptoms of an aneurysm are hard to diagnose as many aneurysms will develop and become quite large before any symptoms manifest themselves. Men between the ages of 65 to 75 years of age who have smoked throughout their lives should be checked regularly for abdominal aortic aneurysms as they are the most common types to affect this particular demographic. If an abdominal aortic aneurysm is found in enough time, it can be treated with medication or surgery. Often blood pressure medicine is used to help reduce the heart rate and reduce the risk of the aneurysm rupturing.

When you discuss aneurysms with your doctor and you ask them ‘what is an aneurysm?’ they may mention peripheral aneurysms. These are aneurysms that occur in the arteries that run off of the aorta. Usually they occur in the back of the thigh behind the knee, in the femoral artery which is the groin area, and in the carotid artery, the main artery in the neck. Symptoms of an aneurysm in these areas usually include blood clots, pain, numbness and swelling and they are not as likely to rupture as an aortic aneurysm. The blood clot, however, can still cause trouble if it breaks away from the artery wall.

Other symptoms of an aneurysm are based on where the aneurysm is located in the body and whether or not it has ruptured. They include but are not limited to: deep penetrating pain; coldness, numbness, or tingling in the feet and legs; coughing, hoarseness or trouble breathing; droopy eyelids; double vision or other changes in eyesight; dilated pupils; numbness or weakness on one side of the face or body; pulsating lump in neck, arm, or leg; painful sores on fingers or toes; leg or arm pain especially during exercise; or gangrene from blood blocking limbs.

Left unchecked anywhere in the body an aneurysm can cause a stroke. If a blood clot breaks free and travels to the brain, a stroke is imminent and can permanently damage your body, possibly with no chance of recovery or regaining use of the affected area. If you have any pain, swelling or other symptoms that are unexplainable, see your doctor immediately. While the symptoms may not be due to an aneurysm, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Blood vessels in the eye are especially small so they’re easier to rupture

If you have ruptured blood vessels often, contact your doctor because this could be a sign of high blood pressure

Recent studies show that the active ingredient in Cardio Smart (TensGuard) helps maintain normal blood pressure in people who are pre-hypertensive, or those at risk of high blood pressure but still have a normal reading

Ruptured blood vessels in the eye can be frightening but in most cases are not very serious. Actually ruptured blood vessels in the eye are relatively common. However, repeated occurrences can be a warning sign of more serious problems that should be evaluated by a doctor. Ruptured blood vessels can happen anywhere in the body with sometimes deadly results. However, when they happen in the eye are fairly benign. They can happen by sneezing, coughing, or extreme physical exertion.

Ruptured blood vessels happen when a clot forms in the blood vessel. As blood passes by the clot it causes the blood vessel itself to bulge from the added pressure. When the blood vessel becomes weakened it can eventually break open, causing blood to escape. This can happen in both small blood vessels and large arteries. A ruptured blood vessel in the eye is when this occurs in the small blood vessels of the eye. The result is either a red spot or redness throughout the whole eye. These small blood vessels in the eye are susceptible to rupture because of their size.

Dangerous blood vessels mostly occur in the larger vessels and they are a result of a damaged blood vessel. These ruptured blood vessels can cause a pulmonary embolism which can be fatal. When this occurs the clot lodges itself in the lungs and the lungs actually drown due to the damage they cause in the lungs.

Damaged blood vessels that occur in the arteries of the neck or head in the main cause of strokes. When the blood clot breaks free it travels directly to the brain, depriving the brain of oxygen. When the brain does not get enough oxygen it starts shutting down other organs of the body as the brain tries to protect itself. Very quickly the lack of oxygen starts to cause the death of blood vessels in the brain, resulting in stroke or death if not treated quickly.

With small blood vessels the damage is quickly healed and is usually minor and happens frequently. What causes these damaged blood vessels? While most of the time harmless they can be an early indicator of high blood pressure which can lead to heart attack or stroke. Because of high blood pressure the body is more susceptible to blood vessel ruptures because of the speed at which the blood is flowing past the blockage. Think of a garden hose when you put your hand over the nozzle. The water comes out faster. The same thing happens with small blood vessels. It is important that if these damaged blood vessels occur frequently that you consult with your health care professional to determine whether you have high blood pressure. In most cases high blood pressure can be treated with a change of diet and lifestyle, or medicine.

Damaged blood vessels are not something to ignore if they keep happening. While mostly harmless they can be a sign of a more serious problem and it’s always better to be safe and make sure that it is of a harmless variety.
