Ischemia itself is a condition known for the restriction of blood flow to a particular part of the body. In the case of chronic ischemic heart disease, blood flow is restricted to the heart muscle. Chronic ischemic heart disease is the name given to overall heart problems that is caused by a narrowing of the heart’s arteries. Ischemia can cause chest pain and the same discomfort related to angina.

What is silent ischemia? Reports have indicated that over three million Americans experience ischemic episodes with no symptoms. These people experience episodes without pain and as a result experience a heart attack with no warning. Most people ask what is silent ischemia and the answer is very straight forward. There is no pain or symptoms related to this condition.

People who have experienced previous heart attacks are more prone to heart disease. Those who have diabetes are at a much higher risk than most for the development of silent ischemia. Doctors will recommend various tests be done to monitor episodes. An exercise stress test may be encouraged or patients can wear a Holter monitor to measure the electrocardiogram for a 24-48 hour period. These two tests can be used to diagnose silent ischemia episodes and indicate if there is a problem the person should be aware of. Other tests may also be recommended by the heart specialist and in some cases, more than one might be required to make a proper diagnosis.

The sedentary lifestyle that most children have today has caused them to lead very unhealthy lives. As a result cardio programs for children have become very popular in an effort to improve their cardiovascular health.

What are They

Cardio programs for children are programs that help children exercise their way to good health. Most of these programs are for children from five to fourteen years of age. A few of them take children as young as 6 weeks. They are held in a gym, or you can buy a DVD that teaches you how to do the cardio workouts at home. They do a lot of different activities to get their heart rate up.

Why They are Needed

Did you know that 50 percent of the children in the United States are overweight? The main reason is because 25 percent of the children spend 4 hours or more a day seated in front of the television or the computer. It has become such a problem, that car seat manufacturers are finding it necessary to change their car seats to fit fatter babies.

How They Help

These cardio programs help children increase their endurance and motor skills, while teaching them health and fitness as a way of life. As they exercise the teachers also teach them fun nutritional tips.

These classes can help children improve respiratory problems, improve their moods, strengthen their lungs and hearts and reduce their blood pressure. They also help the children sleep better and reduce their risk of diabetes.

Blood stem cell storage has two sides, and there is a big stem cell research controversy about using embryonic stem cells for research. Some parents may choose to have these cells from the umbilical cord of their newborn child saved and stored, in a process known as cord blood stem cell banking, and this is done in case the child ever needs stem cells at a future date because of an illness or medical condition. Blood stem cell storage is not a complex process, and even though who are on the against side of the stem cell research controversy do not believe it is wrong for parents to practice cord blood stem cell banking, because no embryos are destroyed to gain these cells.

Blood stem cell storage begins with the cord blood being collected. Once your child is born and the cord has been clamped off and cut, the collection bag needle is inserted into the umbilical cord while it is still attached to the mother, but there is no pain with the process. Around two cups of the blood from the cord is taken. Once the sample is collected it is shipped to the lab using FedEx or another courier service. The blood can not be refrigerated and must stay at room temperature. The next step with blood stem cell storage is actually storing the blood after it reaches the lab. The blood is preserved in a method that does not harm or degrade it, and then the blood is cryogenically preserved. It is the stored in locked rooms with special tanks, at a very low temperature of close to minus two hundred degrees.

Regulating the blood sugar level will keep you more energetic

Taking steps to control your blood sugar will prevent complications such as diabetes and other life threatening disorders

It’s time to shake your booty! Exercise is a sure way of lowering your blood sugar level

Keeping your blood sugar level regulated will help to prevent diabetes and other life threatening diseases. There are steps which can be taken to prevent blood sugar levels from fluctuating. Not only will taking precautions ward off the early signs of diabetes, or compromise the blood sugar of an already diabetic individual, following a few simple tips may prevent further affects of diabetes such as extreme thirst and frequent urination, also known as a primary symptom of diabetes insipidus. Taking the recommended steps for regulating the blood sugar level will keep the blood sugar consistently even keeled. Your mood and energy level will also be steadily maintained.

Eliminate refined carbohydrates and sugar from your daily diet. If avoiding these products seems impossible, the intake of such foods should be at a minimum. Remember that different carbohydrates have different effects on blood glucose levels. Fruits are absorbed more quickly than pasta, for instance. Whole grains and brown rice are great replacement for the standard white products. When the blood sugar is stabilized, saying no to sugar and carbs will also help you lose excess body fat, as well.

Caffeine and alcohol should be minimized as well. Some studies have shown the caffeine may affect the way a diabetic will metabolize carbohydrates with would lead to an elevated blood sugar level. Limit alcohol consumption. It is recommended that when you do drink an alcoholic beverage, consume a fat and protein meal before drinking that beverage.

Eat smaller meals and more often. The body will metabolize the food at a more optimal level for keeping blood sugar levels regulated. If you seem to be a candidate for low blood sugar, increase the protein and fat consumption in the diet.

Before you eat them carbohydrates, think about beginning your meal with protein and fat. This will keep the carbohydrates from digesting too quickly, which causes the carbs to be stored as fat. Include fiber in your diet. It will keep you full for a longer period of time.

Use a glycemic index to identify the foods you are eating as well as their glycemic measures. Even some fruits and vegetables, although filled with nutritious value for other reasons, may have a high glycemic level. Knowing these foods and avoiding them will keep your blood sugar level from elevating.

Don’t forget to exercise. Whether walking, cycling, swimming, or yoga, the American Diabetes Association recommends that 2 ½ hour per week of non-impact activity will help regulate the glucose in your blood. Exercising and hour after breakfast or dinner is the optimal method of activity suggested for diabetics. Remember to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.

Following the suggestions for regulating the blood sugar level will most likely have a side effect of weight loss. This would be a welcomed side effect for many. If excess pounds are needed to be lost, insulin sensitivity will be restored once the weighed is dropped. Blood sugar levels should be at a healthy regulated level, as well.

Coumadin and/or Lovenox injections may be necessary to dissolve the blood clot

Warm compresses may ease the pain of a blood clot, Also, you will most likely be instructed to elevate the affected leg above heart level

Blood clot formation begins from the coagulation of blood, or the changing from liquid to solid. Although blood clotting is necessary at some times, blood clot formation in the blood vessels can be life threatening with need for immediate treatment. Blood will clot to stop bleeding from an injury, which is exactly what we want the blood to do. However, blood clot formation within blood vessels prevents oxygen from reaching vital organs.

There is a wide array of reasons for blood clot causes. A blood clot in a blood vessel may be caused by a trauma or other conditions. Normal blood flow changes like unusual turbulence or partly to complete blockage of blood flow are among other blood clot causes. There is also an abnormal blood process called hypercoagulability. This condition is when blood is more prone to clotting than usual. Other blood clot causes and risks include prolonged sitting, like in a car or plane, prolonged bed rest due to an immobilizing injury, recent surgery like orthopedic, gynecological, or cardiac which particularly increase risk, lower limb trauma, obesity, heart attack or heart failure, aging, birth control pills, estrogen replacement, cancer, organ replacement, or respiratory conditions.

Symptoms of blood clots may include swelling, gradual pain, redness with warmth to touch, more intense pain when bending the foot, leg cramps particularly at night, as well as whitish or bluish coloration of skin. Some people will have no symptoms of blood clots, whatsoever.

When a blood clot is discovered, immediate treatment is necessary so that the blood clot does not get bigger, the clot does not travel to the lungs, new blood clots are kept from forming, and post thrombotic syndrome does not take place. The most standard treatment for a blood is medication which will thin the blood, or anticoagulant medications. Heparin is usually the drug of choice and injected in the skin. Lovenox, Fragmin, Arixtra, and Innohep are other medication choices. After a few days of this treatment, Coumadin is taken by mouth for a few more days. PT INR blood tests are done to determine the effectiveness of the Coumadin or warfarin. The labs will show if enough or not enough drug is being taken. Some doctors will recommend that a blood clot patient wear compression stockings for a while.

For blood clot pain relief, it is suggested that moist heat be applied to the area which is affected. A patient with a blood clot is usually required to have bed rest until symptoms of the DVT pass. Also, the leg should be propped up, or elevated, to be positioned above the heart. This will ease the swelling which adds to the blood clot pain.

In extreme conditions, surgery for blood clot would be necessary if an embolus develops. The surgery would prevent the clot from spreading to the lung. Surgery is always done as a last resort. If there are complications from a blood clot, a filter is surgically inserted into a large blood vessel. This is to trap blood clots which are heading toward the lungs.

Although high blood pressure is known as a “silent killer”, awareness of the condition is improving and hypertension has become one of the most common reasons that people visit their doctors.

High blood pressure is a common symptom and/or cause in the following vascular conditions, which can result in chronic vascular disease: Buerger’s Disease and Peripheral Artery Disease

Put simply, the heart is a powerful muscle that pumps blood to all areas and extremities of your body, all day, every day. The heart pushes blood out into the arteries which supply other blood vessels and capillaries which in turn supply all the organs and tissues in our bodies before the blood is returned to the heart through veins. When the heart beats, blood flows under pressure through the arteries and this creates pressure on the artery walls, and it is that force that is known as blood pressure. High blood pressure is also known as hypertension.

High blood pressure may not cause any outward symptoms or ill effects, but it can cause some serious consequences in the medium and long term. It is very common for people to have high blood pressure and for them to know nothing about it. Well known consequences of high blood pressure include vascular disease, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and congestive heart failure. Although high blood pressure is known as a “silent killer”, awareness of the condition is improving and hypertension has become one of the most common reasons that people visit their doctors.

When the heart beats, it pushes your circulatory system (or the vascular system). Blood vessels are effective tubes that carry the blood way from the heart (arteries) and then return it (veins). Vascular Disease is a broad term that covers any condition or disease that affects your vascular or circulatory system, for example, peripheral artery disease. This ranges from conditions affecting your veins, arteries, and lymph vessels to other disorders affecting circulation.

High blood pressure can be a cause and a symptom of vascular disease. Many deaths that result from stroke, kidney failure and heart attack can be attributed (among other factors) to high blood pressure. High blood pressure is a common symptom and/or cause in the following vascular conditions, which can result in chronic vascular disease:

1. PAD (Peripheral Artery Disease, also known as peripheral vascular disease): As with the coronary arteries, peripheral arteries, i.e. arteries outside the heart, or not involved in blood supply to the heart, may develop a buildup of plaque on the arterial walls. This condition is known as atherosclerosis, and can cause high blood pressure as the area that blood can move through narrows. This narrowing can then lead to ischemia which is the inadequate flow of blood flow to body tissues. An example would be a blockage in the renal arteries, causing stenosis (renal artery disease). Symptoms of peripheral occlusive vascular disease include high blood pressure, poor kidney function and congestive heart failure.

2. Buerger’s Disease: This condition most commonly affects smaller and medium sized veins, arteries and nerves. It is also common in patients with a history of high blood pressure. The condition is strongly associated with smoking or exposure to tobacco smoke. Arteries can become narrowed or blocked in the arms and legs and this causes a shortage of blood supply, known as ischemia to the hands, feet, fingers and toes. This can cause pain in the hands and arms, and more commonly in the feet and legs. Where blockages are severe, gangrene may result and tissues may actually die, requiring amputation.
